Winkler Dagger/Stealth axe

Hey guys,

Can anyone give me any feedback on the Winkler II Tactical Dagger?
What "Elite Unit" was the Winkler II Tactical Dagger designed for?
Was the stealth axe designed for any particular unit or request?

Thanks

SEALs, Force Recon, Cyborg Ops... take your pick. Just because a knife is 'developed' for an 'elite tactical team' doesn't mean it was ever requested, approved, or used by anyone. It's a nice looking dagger if that's what you're into, but that 'elite team' thing sounds an awful lot like a gimmick. My two cents: a dagger is only any good for stabbing someone. Unless you really like the looks of this one, you can find something just as good for a whole lot less than $400.

Personally I'd go with the belt knife or the field knife instead of the dagger. Reason being that they're just as effective when used defensively but the more practical blade shape on the belt/field knife offers more versatility than the dagger.
As for the axe, I'd go for the full sized combat axe or WK II Winkler/Sayoc RnD Hawk. Reason is that the extra reach is very desirable in a melee combat weapon. The shorter axe will put you at a disadvantage in a fight; not to mention it won't chop as well should you decide to use it for chopping wood.

A "Dan Winkler fixed blade" was carried by the SEAL who authored the recent book on the Bin Ladin hit. Just listened to the audiobook last night at work.

Hehe that's some good PR I guess :D Probably a belt knife or utility knife, would be my guess at least.

Edwood will be along shortly. He has both the knife/s & an axe/s. He uses them. He can attest to their functionality & the axe tips ability to penetrate body armor & disable an attacker.

I carry these for work: Combat Axe / Belt Knife

I don't have any experience with the dagger or stealth axes. I'd guess that the stealth axe was a request by someone needing more concealment capability, as a CQB tool. The full sized counter parts aren't all that big.

If you don't get your answer here, email Daniel. He's a great guy and makes some of the best tools in the business in my opinion.

Dan Winkler is the man. That's all I've got. Besides him making some great stuff. All the time. But jwaj is right, he's happy to answer questions.

The have bought the regular sized Sayoc and the smaller baby hawk. I work in and around vehicles, helicopters etc. The small size does help by making it easier to carry and in a room clearing situation the shorter size does make it easier to swing it, without it bumping in to a wall.
As far as the dagger, it has its place, but not for everyone. It truly is a specialist tool that’s made to do one thing.
I went for the Winkler Belt knife, it’s the perfect blend of weapon and tool, the size is prefect, ant the sheathing system it comes with (something almost as important as the knife itself when using it as a weapon) is simple and has no straps or anything, you just pull it out and its ready to go.
They are expensive, but I want the best tools with me at does bad times when I need them, I think any on would.
I have seen Mr Winklers knives in the hands of a lot of guys out there, they do actually carry and used them. The thing is most of what they do is not for the public to know.

Dan Winkler is an ABS Mastersmith with a line of handforged knives and hawks.

He has also worked with various Special Operations units to supply edged weapons. It is definitely not a gimmick.

He used his experience with these units to develope his Winkler II line which he offers to the Public.

Winkler has an excellent reputation and makes great products, somewhat higher end cost wise due to them being customs.

There is a lot that goes on that the public doesn't need to know, been that way for as long as I can remember and it's a good thing.

My hat's off to those Guys and Girls who are put into harms way.

:thumbdn: pretty sure it is well know winkler has made knives for seals.

I think any dagger should have a guard, daggers are meant for one purpose: stabbing.

I can confirm that Seal's do in fact use Winkler knives, axes. My long time friend made the seal team and once he got to his unit he either bought or was issued a Winkler belt knife and small tomahawk. I have seen them in person when he came down to visit. They are fine pieces but I am not up to speed on the steel used and why it is so good, etc.

My Winkler Belt knife is 52100, and my Winkler Combat Axe is 5160, IIRC.

The Dagger is in use with some SAS members....but many Winklers of all kinds can be found in the Teams (SEAL Teams) and with Dboys and more etc.
