Winkler Hawk

sure is! and quick to deploy depending on your set-up... that bungee retention system is super quick, but still very secure. if you got the cash, the winkler Sayok is a beast.

Do a search, there's a few You Tube videos. Several, or more, of us here own some of the Winkler Knives 2 hawks. I have a Sayoc, and it is by far the best made and designed hawk I own.
I have only used it when I tried it out on a thawed out turkey. It's so nice that I want to use it more often, yet I don't want to go getting into fights. So, I have placed an order for the Winkler Camp Axe, and am trying to make a "full weight" G-11 Sayoc trainer. The Camp Axe will be for camping of course, but it's close in size and weight to the Sayoc, straighter handle, different geometry, etc..
Here's some pics for your eyes...My jade green trainer, in progress, my Winkler Sayoc, and a pic of a Winkler Camp Axe.

Nice as how?

How do I get the trainer?

It's nice due to the weight distribution. The handle and head are the thickest, while the tang tapers to a lighter and thinner end. That mass in the head allows for a small compact hawk that still has power and momentum even on a short thrust. I split a thawed out turkey down the ribcage with just a swing from my elbow, no body weight involved.
The handle shape, in both positions, is perfectly made for the use of the hawk, the bottom grip is different from the top. They both allow the user the best muscle engagment for the attack, lower portion is best for a full swing, while the upper grip would work for a thrust, punch, or as a pressure device. The upper grip is full and really fills the hand, you could punch all day. I'm not worried about hurting the handle, micarta, the main edge, or the rear spike. I'm more worried about hurting myself or maybe breaking off the front spike, it is sharp and thin at the tip. I'd hate to damage an heirloom quality tomahawk while "training" with it, so I want a full size, full weight trainer that I can't damage, G-11 is what I'm trying.
My plastic trainer from Blood and Bones gear is also very nice, it's made well, but very light. It's great for paired sparring, it's not supposed to break teeth. There are also some aluminium trainers for sale there or by the Sayoc group, Google is your friend. Search for Sayoc training tomahawk.
I have been trying to make the G-11 trainer, I've got it cut out, but I have lots of sanding to do. I'm not planning on making more of them, it's expensive, time consuming, I don't have the correct tools, plus I can't sell them due to copyrights. I don't have permission to sell this design, nor am I interested in making these for money. I have also made some trainers from a plastic cutting board, pine, and a bamboo cutting board, just as "practice". Here's some pics...Black plastic with 3 holes in the head is the one from BloodNBones. The others I have made....

I have always been a fan of Dan Winkler and his prouducts

I scored one of his breaching axes at a Vegas show a few weeks back and really liked it. So much that I knew I wanted one of his Sayoc front spike hawks

I flipped the Breaching axe and found a brand new Sayoc with the front spike. I'm definitely keeping this one:)

It is a very compact Hawk that is fast in the hand and changes direction well. It is not like a typical very head heavy hawk that does not change direction well. The curse of any hawk is also its greatest advantage they pack a wallop but if you miss it is a hard weapon to change direction with hence foot work being critical to proper hawk use.

The Sayoc Winkler changes direction better then most and is not as susceptible to over strikes or over swings as other hawks and carries thus far very well do to its compact size and excellent sheath. The static cord retention system is excellent being quick and very quiet and rather idiot proof

The Sayoc hawk is very a very purpose driven design.

Where did you buy yours?

Placing an order with Dan is easy, and he's a great guy. He can make it for you, how you want it. Also, if you search around the internet, there's a few sites that seem to have some variation of the Sayoc in stock now. I can't link those sites, as I don't they they are paying members here.
