I am looking for anyone who has used a Winkler II knife for real field or military use. I am mountain search and rescue and am looking to use one for a general utility knife. Looking at the Hunting Knife. I have big hands and the belt knife seems a bit small. Thanks for the info.

Howdy. Had a winkler hunting knife and used it fairly hard. I'm 6'5" with xxl gloves and the handle was very comfortable. My knife was in 80crv2 with sculpted micarta. Very nice. I didn't particularly like the stock sheath, so I had one made for it. The knife went on numerous camping and extended float trips of around 100 miles. I used it on wood(great!), fish (notsogreat), and critters (pretty good).

In summary, very high quality, well balanced, general field knife. Very tough. Good blade design, but, ironically, not my favorite hunting knife by a fair bit. The 80crv2 will rust if not tended to. Would buy another in a heart beat of made in something like s35vn, Elmax, etc.

Thanks for the input. Glad to know the handle would fit. I have a hard time with many production knives because they cramp my hand and cause hot spots.

I just picked up the Belt Knife and have to say it's very nice. I haven't got a chance to do much with it yet though. I will say that the blade is very thick overall and especially behind the edge. I generally prefer thinner blades, but I don't think you could do much to hurt it. Definitely not a slicer for sure.

I've carried a Field Knife as part of my kit for day hikes and general woods bumming for the past couple years. It has been used for normal tasks and I have been more than happy with it. The retention of the sheath is excellent, handle ergonomics are comfortable, and overall cutting performance has always been good.
