Winkler II Striker Steel?

Can someone please help me clarify the steel Daniel uses for his Winkler II line? Are they all made from different steels? I've seen 80crv2, 52100 and 5160 on multiple sites. I was under the impression Daniel uses 80crv2 exclusively for the Winkler II line but I guess that isn't the case cause the Utility is CPM154.

bladeninja......shqxk is correct Dan has been switching to 80crv2 for his Winkler II line it doesn't mean that dealers still can't order in previous steels that he offered being 52100 or 5160 or they still have models with those steels.......Dan has mentioned that 80crv2 provides everything he's looking for in a steel for his knives, axes though will remain in 52100 or 5160......

You're confusing the SAR with the Utility model......the SAR model is offered in stainless cpm154 while the Utility is carbon

As an owner of 5 of his different fixed blade models I can say his work is top notch and unique, along with some of the best sheaths in the business.

Some dealers might have old stock in the older carbon steels, but I believe current offerings will be made in the 80crv2.

Take the plunge, I'm sure you will be happy that you did.
best of luck.

Since the beginning of 2014:
SAR - cpm154
Rescue Axe - S7
WRT - 1095 or 1075
Folding Knives and Dynamis Blade- cpm3v
All other knives and axes - 80crv2

I'll admit, I've been reading up on Daniel's work for the last 2 days and haven't got a whole lot of work done.
For two reasons, I think I'm going for his belt knife as my first.
#1 The price point is at the threshold of me actually using it. It's a psychological game my mind likes to play. I'm not the safe queen type but use every blade I have and use it hard. No offense to those that collect.
#2. It looks like an ideal sized knife for EDC which for me is important.
#3...Yes there's a third reason I want this knife because there's a shop 15 miles from me that has the Winkler II line in stock and I can actually put one in my hand first instead of wondering how it feels with an online purchase. Man, I just got myself worked up. Beer assistant. Where's my beer assistant?

Smart choice my friend I wish I would of got the belt knife a long time ago. Since I have gotten it I have no need for any other blade in that size range. I have been going through blades for years in that range looking for the one that would do it all and do it good. Out of all the super steel and forged ones I have used none come close to Mr.Winklers belt knife.

You have very good taste my friend and a jump on me I plan on the whole line lol, they just work so well its hard not to want to play with all of them.

Cheers!

I don't exactly plan to own the whole line. Like I have a belt and a hunting knife, I don't really need the field knife, I don't currently need any more
tomahawks or a weapon retention tool, but each one I do have is pretty unique with the materials, finishes and styles and I'm pretty happy with them
all so far.

My favorite is the hunting knife with rubber handles and my belt knife with sculpted green micarta. I got a camo spike that I really don't have a use for
but just wanted to try it out. My first one was a dagger with a very nice walnut handle. Then there's the neck knife and push daggers. Novelties really,
for me at least. Maybe I'll sell some of the ones that end up never being used at some point, but for now I still am wanting more.

He's switched steel several times but 80CRV2 is what most of his newer offerings are in. I own four of his, very beautiful and functional.
However, since you'll be going to a store, check them over. I've gotten two with uneven grinds (hunters and neck)
I've been eyeing the parang/jungle knife closely as of late.

Yeah that came across a little wrong. I want to try them all but don't plan on owning the whole line at one time lol. But I am eying the tactical dagger and the back up next or the Bontoc decisions decisions. Its hard to look at other 4-5 inch blades now I have Mr.Winkler's belt knife, it just performs everything I ask of it great which kills me because now I want the Madumi. No clue the excuse I'm going to tell the woman about needing that knife lol.

Thx, Dan! I just got my S.A.R from Knife Art & was worried b/c in the box it said/read that it was made of 80CrV2 and I purposefully bought it b/c I like the COM-154 Knife Art said online it was made of!! Just ‘for the record,’ you’re saying all S.A.R.’s are made of CPM-154? Surely hope so and that I didn’t make a mistake and get one made of the 80CrV2... David PS: It is a Beautiful, Stoutly Built Awesome Blade ~ THX!!

The “...excuse I’m going to tell the woman about needing that knife” is what I struggle with perpetually!!! LOL. I’m addicted [HEAVILY!] to Rifles, Blades (mostly fixed, then swords, then folding..), pistols, SWISS mechanical watches, ..and the like ~ things that go Boom & are Sharp. I just got my first Winkler, the S.A.R., and it’s a work of Art & Bad Assed, all rolled-up into one damned fine blade. What can I say, huh?
