Today marks my fifteenth year as a member at BFC, and I thought it would be appropriate to give a little something back to a community that has given me so much. In addition to the pleasures I've derived from engaging with knowledgeable folks in the knife hobby and knife industry, I have made some great friends over the years here. I've conversed, camped, hiked, kayaked, cooked, and otherwise consorted with a bunch of fine people, all because BFC provided a connective link. A lot of these folks are associated with Ethan Becker and his subforum, and as such, I want to give away one of knives in the Becker line, the BK-5 Magnum Camp. It is, by many estimations, an excellent camp and field blade.

CONTEST RULES:

Qualifications
  • I want to recognize those who contribute to this site, with ideas and/or with finances. Thus, to enter, you should have either: (1) 500 posts at Bladeforums by the time of your entry post OR (2) A Basic Membership or higher. Either condition will qualify you, provided you meet the next two criteria.
  • I can only ship to members 18 years or older.
  • I will have the knife shipped directly from Ka-Bar, and thus, can only send to members in the U.S.

Entrance and Selection
  • Qualified entrants should post in this thread. ONLY one post per qualified entrant, please. Entering more than once will disqualify you.
  • Your post number will be your entry number, and in 15 days, on Sunday, March 29, I will select a winner with a random number generator.
  • If the member with the first selected number does not meet the qualifications listed above, I will keep generating random numbers until there is a winner.

The BK-5 Magnum Camp is a collaboration knife designed by Ethan Becker and the incomparable Jerry Fisk. If you don't know who Mr. Fisk is, you should. He is one of the pre-eminent custom makers in the knife world. Recognized by UNC Wilmington as a "National Living Treasure," Mr. Fisk has earned accolades in this country and abroad. He is a humble steward for the knife industry, and he devotes much of his time to teaching others about knives and knife making. Here's a short video in which Jerry and Ethan discuss the BK-5 Magnum Camp.

Good luck!

UPDATE!

If the winner would like the knife sharpened in the manner represented in the video below, Jerry Fisk has agreed to sharpen the BK-5 before it goes to the winner.
I'll handle shipping to and from Mr. Fisk. Many thanks to him for this offer.

Not in, but Congrats on the anniversary!

Cheers to this one, and many more to come!

Wow, that's a long time to be in on place! Congrats. I'm in

Hell yeah, I'm in. Congrats on making it 15 years here, old timer... :D

Wow--that is a lot of mileage on these virtual highways and byways... Congrats to you sir! I'm in--love the Beckers I have and would be very glad to own another. Good luck to all who enter!

Congrats! If I win the BK-5 I'll mod it a tad and re-give it away

A very generous giveaway Gunyon! ;) Congratulations on a bunch of years spent giving to this community. This GAW is, while a fine gesture in and of itself, symbolic of all you have given over this past decade and a half. Just don't get banned before the end of the GAW, m'kay? :D

Not an entry, but thank you for your generous GAW!

Just wanted to add to an accolade you did not mention: you once had a grown man shave "GUNYON" into his body fur in your honour. Now that's something you don't see every day...:D:cool::emot-yarr:

Great giveaway and milestone!

I'm happliy in.

Love my 15, how could I resist?! :D

I generally eschew participating in this sort of thing. However, the BK-5 is a knife I have always admired, so I'm in. Thanks.

Congrats on the 15 years... Very cool GAW.

My knife preferences are somewhat boring, and I usually like knives similar to the Flat Ground 16. I probably wouldn't have given much thought to the BK-5, that is, until I watched the video. It is amazing what the knife was capable of doing, and how well it held up

ETA: It's a very cool GAW, but I was fortunate enough to win another GAW yesterday, so please don't include my entry. Good luck to all others who have entered.
