Win a lightweight hiking combo! The prize for this contest has been upgraded to both a White Box backpacking stove AND a Ka-Bar folding Dozier!
The combo comes with stove, heat shield, wind screen, AND NOW, folding knife! I'll also throw in a small fuel bottle, but I cannot mail fuel.

Since a stove and a knife are involved, the contest requires you to cook up something campy (in the outdoors) using one of your Ka-Bars for food prep. Post up some pics of the process and result. That's it.
Bonus points for rustic, but at a minimum, you need to cook outside. A grill is okay for city dwellers, but there'd better be some wood or charcoal involved. :D

Anyone can play as long as they own (or can borrow) a Ka-Bar for food prep.
Any knife made by Ka-Bar qualifies. Minimum of three pictures. Maximum of ten.
Video if you want. Photo set and/or video should include images of the knife.
One last condition, and this is new since the "upgrade." By entering, you are agreeing that you'll post up reviews/impressions of both the stove and the knife if you win.

I'll let this one run for about a month so that folks will have time to get outdoors, dig a fire pit in their back yard, slay a mastodon, whatever it takes.

Edited to add: Entries only, please, in this thread. Discussion can be taken here (click link) if desired.

Lunch while we were fishing. This is the first time I have actually used this stove set up. I wish I would have got more pix of it in use, I was fishin, but over all it worked really well. Only thing is that is weighs a ton for backpacking. It's great for a short day or weekend trip.

I decided to do lunch time beanie weinies for this challenge.

On my lunch break today I took my lunch bag and went into the patch of woods next to where I work.

The ingredients
1 can of pork and beans
2 hot dogs left over from grilling last night
some cut up onion, red pepper, and bacon
a packet of honey
a small container of BBQ sauce.
A Acheron parasite will be used to make this meal and it will be cooked in a canteen cup.
cook003.jpg

First empty your can of pork and beans into the canteen cup, then using water from the canteen wash the can out and wipe dry. Next cut up the onions, pepper, and hotdogs. Now turn the pork and bean can into a hobo stove.
cook004.jpg

Combine the onion, peppers, bacon, honey, BBQ sauce and hot dogs with the pork and beans stirring them all together.
cook005.jpg

Fire up the hobo stove and cook 12-15 minutes or until nice and hot, stirring occasionally.
cook006.jpg

When done eat directly from canteen cup, mmmmmmmmmmm good.
cook007.jpg

After everything is cleaned up take gratuitous picture of the ka-bar knife that was used. I used the parasite to slice the food and to cut the can to make the hobo stove. The tin can did chip the edge a bit and scratched up the black coating, but after I was done I was still able to shave some sticks nice and thin.

Thanks for the giveaway Guyon!!

And here we go!

Wife is out of town, so a perfect chance to set the entire back yard on fire and come out the other end with delicious dinner.

First, my new Cutlass went to work to prep wood. We don't use charcoal any more, just wood, even for the barbecue. Chop Chop.

IMG_3418.jpg

Then out came the Phat Bob to do some feather sticks. Kid1 helped out with her Remora.

IMG_3419.jpg

That's right, two fires. One for the meat and one for the onions!

IMG_3425.jpg

Kept the 10 clean for food prep. Fixins.

IMG_3443.jpg

IT'S GO TIME

IMG_3454.jpg

Well, ok, Kid1 did the going.

IMG_3478.jpg

Onions and garlic all cooking up.

IMG_3487.jpg

Peel off the burned layers, lime and salt, oh yeah baby.

IMG_3500.jpg

Meat, my favorite vegetable.

IMG_3497.jpg

The finished product, tacos... my other favorite vegetable.

Thanks for the contest (and the extension) Guyon! This was a good time with the kids and toys. The 10-photo restriction was hard :)

Well, all I can say is that it pays to be the squeaky wheel. BRL piped up and asked for an extension on the contest, and it paid off for him.
Congrats, BRL. You're the winner. Get me some address info and I'll get your prizes out soon.

All the entries were good. Some folks got out. Others did more elaborate work in the back yard.
So I just left it up to chance. 1 in 5 odds ain't bad on one of these contests.

Printed up some slips.

Cut 'em out.

P1030557.jpg

Folded 'em the same.

P1030558.jpg

Put 'em in a bag, shook it like crazy, and let my boy pull a slip.

P1030559.jpg

There's your winner.

Yeah buddy! Thanks Guyon and mini-Guyon. Really really stoked about these prizes... needed a stove, and I'm quite fond of the KA-BAR/Dozier folders so adding this one to the lineup is a real treat. W00t!

Congrats BRL!

Its a good thing you got your Cutlass in time... otherwise there is no way you could have even done this contest. That much is obvious.

I finally got my first KaBar this week, so next time this comes around... I'll be ready :).
