I have one such knife. This Gerber Harsey Hunter - Operation Iraqi Freedom. No sure how this came into my possession. Just can't remember. I do know I never sharpened it and never carried it, and I believe no one else ever has either. Found it in a box of a bunch stuff from OIF travels when cleaning out a spare bedroom closet last year.

This is a GAW open to any and all who post regularly in the Traditionals Forums. Just post you're in. If you're an OIF vet, might not hurt if you mention being an OIF vet.

Specs (from Gerbers page):

Gerber Harsey Hunter w/ actical Sheath (Discontinued).

•Overall Length: 10.63"
•Length of Blade: 5.41"
•Weight: 11.4 oz.

Not very descript on the steel.

First of all, a :SALUTE: to all veterans and a heartfelt thank YOU for your service !!!
Secondly, that is fine Gerber leghog and thank you for the opportunity to participate in your GAW

I'm a retired Navy Chief Petty Officer. My last deployment was in theater OIF in 2004 aboard the USS John F Kennedy CV-67. Our mission was to launch aircraft and put ordnance on station in support of our Marine boots on the ground and their campaign in Fallujah.

Pictured are a USS John F Kennedy Chief's Mess challenge coin.
A serialized challenge coin presented by Anheuser Busch to the first 350,000 U.S. service members and our foreign allies in theater OIF.
A Gerber 400 (LST) and handmade friction sheath I made from an old leather belt and wore throughout much of my career while proudly serving.

It would be an honor to proudly own a big brother to that little 400 ... Hoo-Yah !!!

Dang, my boots first hit ground in Iraq on 5 April 2003. Anheuser Busch didn't give me a coin. I was there in '03, '05, '07, and '09.

Thank you for your service leghog !!!

I've run into others who were there and didn't get an Anheuser Busch challenge coin either. Like so many other things, maybe it was just a matter of being in the right place at the right time. Kind like during Desert Shield / Desert Storm back in the early nineties. Some early medals handed out by by the Saudis and Kuwait were REAL gold ... the subsequent ones were not of course ... and mine isn't Lol.

During DS/DS, we were told not to refer to the Persian Gulf ... as the Persian Gulf. We were told that henceforth we were to call it the Arabian Gulf. Not sure that completely caught on though. Almost 15 years later on my last 2004 deployment before retiring in 2006 ... everyone called it a deployment to the Persian Gulf.

Can I enter this on behalf of a pair of OIF veterans who recently got engaged? I have a Spartan Harsey Difensa myself, so I don't need this for me, but I think this would be an excellent gift for my friends.

Thank you to all the vets who have served and continue to serve. I am a retired USAF CMSGT. I served in Operation Desert Shield, Operation Desert Storm, and Operation Iraqi Freedom. I would be honored to have this knife in my collection. Count me in and thank you for a chance at this terrific knife.

My first cousin is a retired USAF CMSGT, Bob. It's a small world. You may know him or not. Patton Scales.
Oh and leghog, my nephew was in Iraq in 2003 (Army) ... he didn't get a coin from Anheuser Busch either.

Not an entry.

I just wanted to Thank the Veterans and active Armed Forces members that are present on here and board members family members that have and are serving. Without You all we likely wouldn't be able to do things as small and trivial as post on a forum like this, to the incredible such as enjoying my daughters smile when she first put her feet in the ocean as it washed ashore.

Thank you again and Good luck!

Salute to my fellow brothers-in-arms from OIF; I served there in 2003 with the ARNG. This is not an entry as I bought myself this OIF commemorative knife in 2004 from Lowe's. That's a nice knife Leghog and a great collectible to whoever is the winner! OH
Ps And I salute our sisters-in-arms as well (not sure if we have any here, but salute none the less!)

Thanks for the chance, I'm in. If I win, I'd like to send it to an active duty soldier.

Thank you for your service.

Thank you to all who served - and those still serving! I was in the US Army Infantry 1975-78, but I'm not in. I don't have a good use for that blade and would prefer to see it go to someone else. Thanks Leghog! Great GAW!

Not an entry, since I haven't developed any interest in fixed blades. But thanks for the GAW, leghog, and as many others have written, thanks to all the OIF vets (ALL vets, really) for their service!:thumbup:
