I know that there are some fellow "big and tall" guys on here, and maybe you can help another brother out. I am looking for a good pair of boots for the winter. Well made, won't fall apart as they cart me around, sturdy etc. Waterproof preferably, does not have to be Gore Tex, or lined for warmth.

I am a big guy, and you know what they say about big guys. They have big feet :D, and I am definitely one. I also have big calves, and that's before they swell (joys of being a diabetic, luckily my feet don't get too bad).

Not necessarily looking for waders, sort of a combination of work boots.

I have been wearing danner ft Lewis 600gm composite toe boots. They keep my feet very warm, dry and safe.

They are among the best boots I have owned and living in Alaska we go through boots.

I vote for Red Wings. I wear them every day and they keep my feet toasty warm and dry.
I would also second danners. Well made boots that will last you a long time. Can't go wrong either way.

If you're looking for bombproof, I'd check out Asolo's offerings. I have a pair of Echos that look brand new after 2 years of ABUSE. Construction site, heavy backpacking etc. The thick heavy Vibram soles that particular model came with feel like bricks when you are standing on them, and they are a bit much these days to swing under my arthritic legs(I have strong ankles and have never had issues with backpacking in lighter ankle-high midweights) but they fill an important role. I'd also look at Garmont's Momentums. I tried a pair on this week and they appear to be well built but are very light with alot of support and some impressive insulation. If they make a non-insulated model I'll probably be investing in a pair in the near future. They seem to be going for around 120 if you do your shopping.

I vote Red Wings. In the construction world, they are very popular- comfortable and tough.

IF your feet are big and wide, stay away from Danner. Yes they have EE widths, but you can't get an EE width AND a size 14.

I just got myself a pair of Irish Setter "Gun Flint" by Red Wing, 800g thinsulate. I'm still breaking them in but so far they are pretty darn nice ! Also look into Matterhorn, I wear a pair of these 6 day a week(I'm a coal miner), unreal tough & pretty darn comfortable. I'm in Mud & water alot ! They keep my feet dry & warm !

I got a pair of Keen summit county boots last winter and they have been outstanding, check them out.

My Vote is for Asolo, there the only boots that I've found that will replace my "waffle stompers" from high school.
