Winter Carry

So with winter coming up do you guys and gals tend to change your usual EDC(s) to work better with your more than likely gloved hands?

Personally I've moved towards larger spidey holes in general, and currently carry a para 2 so it's not too difficult, but I've had some knives with harder to access studs that were a pain. I had the idea of tracking down a microtech because I think autos would be a breeze with gloves but apparently they're ghosts...

So what's your go to heavy glove knife?

The best part of winter is easier carry of fixed blades under coats! I have an Esee that hangs out in a large coat pocket that is much easier to carry because the coat conceals it and has pocket large enough to hold it. Don't usually wear gloves so my folders don't need to change to be opened easier in gloved hands.

My winter carry is under 3 inches since the majority of my cutting needs are confined to indoor heated areas. I have a snowblower for cutting snow.

Winter carry makes me more inclined to carry my Sebenza (which I think is the easiest knife I own to open with gloved hands) or one of my Military's.

Unfortunately for me, winter here is very mild (CA), so I rarely even wear gloves.

the only thing that changes is now I wear a jacket.

but I do want gloves for when I hike in the snow/ice.

Opinel 9 works just fine with gloves on. Also light enough for summer shorts.

The big knife change for me this time of year is my back up knife in my backcountry essentials kit. In warm months, it's an Inox Opinel 10. In cold months, it's an old Schrade-Walden H-15 and a Silky folding saw.

I find flippers easy to open with or with out gloves. Many of my knives are flippers so that makes it easy. The spydie hole still works well on my Endura but it also has the wave which helps when coming out of my pocket.

Tend to carry more carbon in the dry air. The main EDC's year round are in the 4, 4 1/4, 4 1/2, etc. (trappers & hunters) range and work in work gloves in all 4 seasons.

For easy access a fixed blade with a drop in sheath is hard to beat when working with the tool on a job.

Winter time at last!!!! Well I'm in AZ, so not so much.

But I get to bring out a few of the big ones.

Spyderco Manix 2XL or Benchmade 15020 will be in my pocket.

If I'm working, I carry a Gayle Bradley. Very easy gloved operation. Outside of work, a Becker BK11 is clipped to the inside of my front right pocket. Both are perfect for wintry gloved use.

I carry fixed blades on the belt during winter, they are out of sight under the clothing. I like to have a fixed blade on me whenever I am out on frozen waterways, and I spend a good deal of time on them. Not only do fixed blades cut, they can get you out of the water when going through the ice.

Honestly, my knife obsession only started just after last winter, so during last year's cold season I only had a Victorinox. Now that winter is coming up, my EDC will remain the same. If i'm wearing thick gloves, and I don't think I will, i'll just carry my ZT 0350.
