I've made a list of the knives, guns, dvds, etc that I own. I just made a list of the coats I own, that I know of. I've got some junker work jackets and coats that I bought with the sole purpose of, if it gets ruined or ripped etc, it's my work coat, and doesn't matter. I've tried to keep it simple with a good parka, a good spring and fall jacket, and a leather jacket. I have a collection of toys etc, but I just need some pants and a couple shirts, and the above jackets. Well, I have 15, yep, FIFTEEN friggin coats! Hoods on all except where noted,

I have,

2xl Columbia 3 in 1 parka
3xl Columbia parka
4xl Columbia 3 in 1 parka
3xl Steve and Barry's parka style coat blue
3xl Steve and Barrys parka style coat grey
3xl Walmart no name brand plaid coat
2xl no name brand tan dress jacket
3xl no name brand tan dress jacket
4xl jacket with Scotland coat of arms monogrammed on it
2xl leather jacket can't remember brand no hood
2xl Russian military surplus trenchcoat style winter coat no hood
3xl hoodie zipup
2xl pullover no hood
3xl pullover no hood
3xl farm coat no hood (and holes a plenty)
3xl moose creek parka(patched and sewed up numerous times)

Now, I think I need to drop off some of these coats for the poor, at least give some away to family. The Columbias and the Moose Creek were the only expensive ones.

The reason I bought so many Columbia coats, was because that when I started working for Uncle Sam, I wore 2xl. The next year, I wore 3xl. Then after that, 4xl was comfortable. Now, the 3xl is way too big, so I'm going back down the size list.

In regards to the Steve and Barrys coats, I had a pocket full of money to burn, and 15 bucks for a parka seemed like a deal to me. They are nowhere near as well made or warm as the Columbia parkas, but for the kind of weather MD is having now, they're great. Toss one in the back of my SUV and let it set for the winter.

I got a WM plaid coat as a gift, without a hood and with buttons. I think it was last used as a dog bed in my poochs dog house. Surprisingly well made coat, and I wanted another one of the same design for splitting and cutting wood etc during the wintertime. Basically something to beat up, a farm coat. Hood and a zipper instead of buttons? Even better.

I decided I needed a nice dress jacket for work, especially since I had gone from a retail manager to a somewhat more reserved office setting. Saw a bargain at WM, bought a tan dress jacket with a hood. The pocket zippers ripped out, and it ripped one day, so that became a jacket to leave in my truck in the fall and spring. So, I bought another one like it.

About three years ago, at a Scottish festival, I bought a no name sports jacket with a Scotland logo on it, and that's what I've got with me today.

My parents got me a leather jacket several years ago, the cuff buttons need to be replaced, other than that it is a great coat, and I wear it to some family functions.

My father gave me a Russian military surplus coat he bought in Sportsmans Guide. I use, or used to use, that in the winter for family functions, parties etc. I think its a wool officers coat. Feels like a sauna in freezing conditions, only cost 4 bucks!

Hoodie zipup was a gift from my granny, another work around the house coat.

One pullover was gift from my other grandmother, the other was one I bought in a headshop.

When I was 19 I worked at the local Ames, and bought a farm coat for about 5 bucks. This thing has been eaten by three dogs, used as a mat by two dogs, used as a blanket to change tires on the side of the road, and is a no name POS, but still looks new. A little TLC!

Last but not least, I have an old Moosecreek parka, that I bought when I was 18. This coat has been repatched, resewn so many times, I think that it has more fabric from my fathers shop than from the company.

Just astounded by the number of coats that I know I have, I don't even know where some of these are. Gonna load up the truck tomorrow and take some down to the local Salvation Army if my family doesn't need them.

Lately I've been looking at all of the crap I've accumulated. There must have been a purpose somewhere along the line.

I would be terrified to count the number of coats I own. Without opening a single closet or wardrobe, I count 11 (eleven) coats just hanging up by the door - I like coats :o

In Florida that is a little excessive, unless you are skiing in Aspen every winter. :p :D ;) :)

Well in my own defense, I moved to FL. from the NorthWest and spend lots of time in the winter in Maine and Canada. I also had the oppertunity to get some gear for a climb in Africa at no cost to myself, hence the high dollar arcteryx and Western mountaineering stuff.
Yep, a bit excessive for my daily use here though. Fall has hit and its not getting above 70, Brrrr chilly;;-)>

I have a couple "3 season" jackets and one heavy winter coat that's 17 years old. I wouldn't be in the market for a new one this year, but the zipper is stripped. I'll probably keep the old one in my truck in case of emergency. You guys with all those coats...that's obscene

I have 3:

land's end stadium coat
lands end squall parka
WB Place leather coat that was my dad's

Every fall for the past couple of years I think maybe I should get a new coat, then I talk myself out of it.

I just have my Carhartt work jacket that will live much longer than I will. Tough as nails.

Winter here in the UK ain't that harsh so i've only got a few coats.

1) Favourite coat is a Barbour Classic Moorland Jacket. Not too thick but when i need to i can just attached the quilted liner. It's nice having a coat that's tough and easy to repair and maintain.

2) A few timberland jackets. This was before they started becoming more fashion than workwear. So these jackets are still tough.

3) A drizabone long coat with a pure wool liner. Nice for really heavy rain since it 's really long.

4) A smart wool jacket i got in Australia. Man the stuff in Australia is so much better than in the UK. They have better fashion sense. More classic styles.

5) 1 leather jacket my parents bought me while they were in Turkey. Leather seems to be quite good but don't use it much.

6) A couple of long wool coats for more formal occasions.

What i want now is just 1 gore tex jacket. I've always wanted one but they're kinda expensive and i wouldn't know when to wear it.

I lived and worked in the Rocky Mountains and Northern Great Plains for a good while and became really paranoid about proper winter gear. Here are a few-

*Military M60 fieldcoat which went thru many winters in N. Dakota and one long cold winter in Prudhoe Bay AK. Still in good shape.
*An old blue heavy down coat which is really warm. Got it at a garage sale for $1.00 with campfire burns which I sewed up. Warmest coat ever for 18 years now.
*A new heavy down coat for going to town
*Military extreme weather goretex parka rarely used
*Eddie Bauer goretex parka from 1981 which has survived 3 Mount Washington hikes and many other Rocky Mt. outings. Saved my life on Washington during an October whiteout w -40F windchill.
*2 Columbia polar fleece w shell type coat
*North Face heavy goretex parka- got it this year at a flea market for $20 but haven't had a chance to try it in extreme conditions
*Heavy sailing raincoat which has shown me that good raingear is worth it
*Every thing else is layering systems-these get used the most
