Got a little snow here today - first snow of the season, 3" to 6" - a "blizzard" for around here (LOL)
(We're from New Hampshire) been here 6 years now. LOVE it ! Should have moved here 40 years ago.
Anyway - On a whim, grabbed my coat, couple beers, backpack, the dogs and headed out to the camp site.
No planning. Just went with what I had in the daily backpack. See if I could give it a go with what I had.
It's nice to plan and bring all the right gear, but as Moose says, sometimes "ya gotta' dance with what you brung"
(I paraphrase)
Campsite - snowy and wet
I'd love to tell you I stared the fire with a bow drill, but I didn't. I always carry a bic, matches, newspaper and lint from the dryer (wife thinks I'm nuts)
(got a fire steel in there somewhere too. just in case)
Dogs did NOT help. Almost pushed the damn ball through the fire and put it out (LOL)
Now, I'm not a big "battoning" guy. I usually use a hatchet and folding saw - but today ... glad I knew how and COULD batton. Everything was wet and had to get to the inside for some dry wood. The 7 is ALWAYS with me and did a good job.
One of the other things I always carry is a nip (or 2) For "medicinal purposes"
As the day wore on, got some more snow.
Happy to report, the lean too is still working great. Warm and dry inside.
Beer ... you only rent it
