For Christmas my nephew (age 11) wanted his own "kit" like my boys have so that's what I got him along with a neon green Mora Companion (his first fixed blade). He wanted to spend the weekend here with us so yesterday I took the 3 of them to the woods for a hike. Here are the 3 Stooges !

I found a place that could have been turned into a decent little shelter so I gave the three boys some ideas & a little direction & turned them loose

Looks like they had a good start on it.
Nice to see kids get out there away from the TV and video games. They always seem to have such a good time.

Lucky man to go out like that with your kids

How were the knives
The BOB?
I love the BOB...my favorite "Belt Knife" so far. It takes & holds an awesome edge & it's built like a tank !

Excellent. Just a question though: Shouldn't y'all be wearing orange at this time of year?
Thanks & no it's Archery only here, modern rifle & muzzle loader are both over in our zone until next season.

I bet those boys want to try building another and probably a super shelter this time. They'll want to camp out there.

Awesome post man, looks like you and the boys had a blast! Way to go getting your nephew out with you guys too.

Thanks for the thread.

Kids always underestimate how long it takes to build a proper brush shelter. The experience they got will help them understand what is needed if the need is ever critical. Start now!

Yeah..they wanted to stay & work on it but it was to late in the eve & the temps were starting to drop...

Thanks 'Ol Bud...my nephew loved it, my boys & me are his connection to the outdoors. we take him camping & fishing with us to. He is just now getting interested in bushcraft.
Always liked your threads.

And I like this one as well.

Thanks
Thanks 'Ol Bud....glad you enjoyed.

Thanks...this was a good experience for them. before we started I explaind the process & I showed them the "Pre-bent" frame I spotted. Then I told them to imagine that they had been hiking & got lost & that they were gonna need to bed down for the night. I turned 'em loose & away they went, they worked hard on it & seemed to take it serious but had a lot of fun in the process ! They are ready to try this again !

I am so envious of you. You have a great looking family and it looks like you are teaching them well.
