Thought I would go for a winter hike.
I can't say enough nice things about Kahtoola Micro spikes for walking on icy trails.

A view of MT. Firescrew. Not much else very low visability that day.

Not my favorite time of the year, but enjoy what you have.

Great pics  I wish I could do more snow hiking, it looks so peaceful.

Nice pics! Snowy and peaceful, but it looks like a good day to keep moving.

Beautiful vistas there. Damn, did you get that knife out of the box right before you went hiking?:D At least rub some dirt on it before you take the picture, sheesh.

:D

sweet views! i went hiking last sunday and i was knee deep in snow most of the time. i thought about buying snow shoes but realized it might not be too useful because the terrain is pretty steep around here. i'll probably just buy something like that since there's a layer of ice underneath all that snow i was walking on.

i bought real hiking poles too to help. my home made wooden poles with rubber tips weren't cutting it traction-wise on the ice below.

Msr Denali classics are great snowshoes, good buy at EMS.
I use regular ski poles.

Thanks for sharing Trailbum, You're right about enjoying the time you have!!! Very positive outlook, I like that..:thumbup:

Very beautiful area there, I have a funny feeling there is fatwood to be harvested...

I'm surprised there wasn't a pic after you chopped and batoned up some fire wood to warm your bones..:)

Happy Trails !!

Thanks for taking us all along with you! Looked cold, but a beautiful hike all the same!!!

I'm going hiking tomorrow. Your pics look so good, they're getting me off my bum. I got snow on my mountains here in East TN. You're right about no people, there wont be anybody out.

Cool pics, looks like a great time/place to hike. I was sold on those spikes when I saw a video of a guy walking pretty quickly on pure ice, not even a mix of ice/dirt. Have to get myself a decent pair of waterproof/winter boots and those spikes.

BTW, I think we have the same gloves and pack, both of which are great.

Kahtoola Micro spikes are great kit. love'em. good for running UP the sled hills :)

I love me some winter hiking! In WI, we have to like it we are miserable 4 months a year... ;) I'll be uploading some pics myself later tonight from my hikes in the Kettle Moraine forest of late. Thanks for sharing!
