had the opportunity to get out a bit the other day. hiking in winter/snow(or snowshoeing when i have the chance) is my favorite time to get out into the woods.

winter really is my very favorite time of year to be in the woods. but this winter i have had so many obligations and traveling so much, its been hard to get out.:(

Looks GREAT, sadie. I really enjoy a winter hike. You never have to worry bout sweat bees! :)

Great pics, finding animal tracks is one of my greatest pleasures when hiking and, for me, can sometimes be more enjoyable than seeing the creature that made them !

Love the Turley !

yup me too pit. there were numerous other small animal tracks, but with the snow about 6-8"(and deeper some places) it was really hard for me to figure em out. and with the light and snow the pix just dont show enuf either. the paw prints were deep and sometime non-existent or filled in with snow they dragged along. and of course on top of the snow they drug fur, tail etc. but yeah i love determining tracks and what they are up to. came across two separate places where small groups of deer had spent the night, lots of smallish diggings(probably skunk or squirrel or both)and of course lots of small bird prints on top of the snow. my pops was an avid tracker/hunter. i loved woods time with him. we would follow tracks and he would tell stories of what the animals were doing at each turn. he was a great story teller-a real character.

the turley is an amazing knife. sorry i havent had the opportunity to really get er in action yet. but i will be sure.

I know what ya mean, the deeper the snow the tougher it is. These are some Raccoon tracks I found recently, as they went into deeper snow it became almost impossible to tell what made them !
