A bunch of you have seen this already, but I thought it would be of interest to the rat packers out there. Building of a tarp shelter, bedding and long fire for cold winter sleeping. Rick and his cousin who built the shelter slept in it overnight with nothing but their cloths and a spare Anorak (made of U.S. Army wool blankets) last nights. They reported in this morning and seemed to have done well.

Enjoy the cold!

Wow nice shelter. How was the night in it

I didn't stay the night as I am just recovering from a bad cold so I just went out for the fun of the day to help them construct the shelter. Rick reported in this morning saying that it was a bit smoky but tolerable. They left at 6:00 am this morning. Temperatures reached -14 oC last night and the wind chill was -19oC.

I would be up and gone at 4am if it were that cold. Thanks for the play by play Kgd. Really cool post!

Too cold for me, Thanks for the link KGD ;)

Nice to see people using wool outerwear still. its a hell of alot more durable than the new nylon / synthetic stuff. And i think everyone should try to store some up in case the time comes when that kind of clothing is practical and we rid ourselves of the fashionable.

Looks like fun. It makes me wish I had a little more time to enjoy the cold weather.
The colder the better.
