I got my first wilderness survival expedition of 2010 in 2 weeks.. in Canada off course, its gonna be snowy

First time using my Rats in the snow.. kinda not sure how quick this kind of metal is going to react versus Rust.. obviously the Rats are going to get in contact with a lot of snow.. should i whip it out every time i want to place them back in their sheath to prevent rust ? Will I be ok if I just whip the knife dry just 1 time before going to sleep ? As much as my Rats are my favorites knives, if its too much of a problem, maybe i should bring a crappy buck 119 special which will be more resistent to being constantly being wet from the snow. (I really dont want to go that way, i will most likely bring hell to my RC5 to test it for good in the field until its too rusty/bruised)

Once at home, after the weekend, i guess its gonna need a lil oil or something but mostly concern about the snow use of my rats.. and how much rust-paranoid should i be for those who have more experience than me with this type of steel.

Wipe the extra snow off on your pants before you put the knife in your sheath. That works well enough for me. No need to be too paranoid.

Are you training at the Boreal Wilderness Institute? My first survival expidition is in 2 weeks as well.

didn't even knew about the Boreal Wilderness Institute..

its just me and my brother picking random location deep north, aiming at something (a precise lake or river) without more planing.. making our way there without map, surviving there for 24-48hr (until i got my vacation and go for extented period of time with minimal gear).

I was really looking for a good survival school in my area because my talon d'achile (weak spot) is the edible plants and various food we can find in canadian forest.. i dont know a lot about it. I just dont care about the part that i already know so well.. but its always part of any survival course (fire making without flint, shelter building with a trusty RC5, etc..). I would gladly pay an expert in canadian wilderness food for a whole day just to teach me directly what can be eaten.. an be self suficient in the wood.

Is Boreal Wilderness Institute a good school ? where/how did you heard of them.. ? any info is welcomed my friend :)
