So the Misses and I took a nice walk around the neighborhood today. After we got back to the house I told her I wanted to go a little further so I headed out again, this time up to the end of our development where it backs up to about 700 acres of public land that are open to hiking. When I got to the cul-de-sac I peeked over the berm and could see that much of the 12" of snow that had fallen last week had melted down to about 3". Inspired by bearthedog's recent winter hike post (during the blizzard no less!), I went up and over the berm and into the woods.(Make no mistake this was nothing like what bear did!) The first section is a short half mile loop that is easy to navigate and even though I wasn't really dressed for the woods, I figured a quick jaunt around that loop was not unreasonable. It was wonderful. There were no other footprints there-I was the first one back there since the snow at least. I often pray the rosary as I walk and it was so much nicer to be back in the woods where it was nice and quiet and where I hadn't been since the early Fall. Makes me want to go up there again with proper boots and really do a good hike. Thanks for reading and thanks to bearthedog for the inspiration.

First one there since the snow!

Well, except for this guy:

Some of the woods came home with me:
Finally, to keep it "knifey", here's the SOG knife I've been testing out:
