Winter walk.

Amanda and I got bored so we decided to go for a quick walk in the woods. Nothing special just poking around seeing what we could see.

We headed down a snowmobile trail that goes to a pond that we like to fish in the summer. There are swamps all around the pond. We took advantage of the frozen swamps to get out to some islands that we have never been on.

Not sure what plant this is but it made a good flash tinder. Yes I tested it.

Lots of animal tracks going down the trail and into the swamp.



This is a tamarack tree. The only coniferous tree that looses it's needles in the winter.



We got out to one of the bigger islands and I got to try out my newest Becker, The BK-6.





I took down this dead standing Pine.





The swamp continues beyond the island.



My dog Becker had fun.



We found this tree that was happy to see us.



More swamp.



We found some birch trees and started looking for chaga. We didn't find any but they had other mushrooms.

We found this rock placed in this saplings. Weird.

Beautiful and peaceful looking too. I do like that BK 6. I need one of those.

It looks to be pretty cold over there judging from the looks of that happy tree. :D
 
Man all these pictures with snow is driving me nuts. I haven't been able to hike in the snow in years. Thanks for the pics and that bk 4 looks awesome
 
it's Phragmites communis or Wild Reed. Amazing tinder when dry, make sure you grab a bunch and put it in a pocket near your body. If you crush it, it increases the inflammability. The stem can also be mix to your smaller wood. One of my favourite plant :)

This was it's first outing. I like it so far.

Sorry to hear that. Snow is fun as long as your not working in it.

Age and treachery, SBK. Plus: working/job x hours = $$. $$/expenses = leftover $ = Becker BK6. It's simple math.

Congratulations on the BK6, Jeremy. That looks like a fun walk. There's a company that makes pens out of phragmites - they call them "phragwrites" or something like that. Thanks for the great photos!
 
Bigfoot must have put the rock there to mark his territory but fled when he saw your BK6.
 
Rock in a tree huh? Y'know, aside from knocking on trees, placing random stones in trees is a squatch's favorite pastime. Good to see that 6 getting used!
 
Tis good to be in the woods. Good stuff man. Lucky dog on the BK6. Have always admired that one.
 
Looks like a great time. Becker looks like a lot of fun. I like seeing him pop up occasionally on your threads. Congratulations on the BK6! I like the woodland pack. Is that a CFP-90?

Nope, that pack is the Molle 2 assault pack. I highly recommend it.
