I have had great fun with my waste oil forge during the warmer months (veggie oil) But today I had to do some preheating on the oil to get the ol' beast running. Do any of you veggie oil burning guys do a winter blend with motor oil mixed in or something ? I know it'll burn straight waste oil but I'm trying to avoid it for health and residential reasons.

I would add a bit of kerosene, it should help.

Can you reach welding temps with your waste oil forge???

I use WMO pretty much exclusively and I just move the oil can a little closer to the rear exhaust of the forge and crack open the bricks covering the forge opening so some of the radiant heat warms the oil. A lot of the oil I get is 15w40 so it gets thick when it's cold. Plus, I forge near a boiler so I keep the jug of oil in the boiler room to keep warm.
