Well, for the first time in three years, I called in to work. I hated to do it, but even with AWD I didn't like the prospects of going out in this...

You can kinda make out the curve of the road. There's already been one truck slide into the ditch.

The mountain across the street. This thing worries me. Duke Energy came after the last snow storm and cut the trees along the lines, but this isn't a hillside, this is a mountain, if something up there starts falling, I'm in trouble.

Snow falling. Didn't mean to have the flash on, but it's kinda pretty.

And yes, even in a Subaru, I'm not going out there.

I know many of you deal with much worse all the time... but we just don't get that much snow around here.

where about is this?

I'm getting similar weather right now. looks nice in pictures, but isn't so much a wonderland as it is a personal hell when you have to travel in it.

:eek:Oooh. A Scoobydoo, some snow and no one on the roads!!!

I'll come down. You give me the keys and hop in the passenger side. I'll get ya where ya wanna go. :D

Which reminds me the Snow Drift Rally started today in Atlanta Michigan.

where about is this?

Right on the Jackson/Macon county North Carolina line.

I had to call into work because I work on the Cherokee reservation and have about 20 miles to go. Last month I was stranded in Cherokee when it iced... I'm not doing that again... at least not when beer is $4 a bottle at the casino (but I did win $12 playing poker).

It's still coming down. We've probably got six or seven inches now.

My son is getting the same weather in western TN. We have nothing here in upstate NY! Go figure ...

Right in the area I grew up. Man, I sure miss it. :(

The weather is terrible out here, too. Jeez, it was almost cold enough that I had to put on my sweatshirt while I was on the patio, having a beer while I was grilling a big 1" sirloin and watching our resident hummingbirds buzz each other. Almost. And these bright red & orange sunsets just get old after a while, you know? :D

thx - cpr

ps - can I be banned for cruel & unusual posting?

I love it here. I came here in 1999 to go to school at WCU, graduated in 2003 and haven't left.

The aftermath of the Friday's nice pretty snow? Right around ten inches when all was said and done. My power went out around 11pm Friday. Then Saturday they plowed the road which pushed a nice three feet of snow, ice and gravel up at the end of my driveway. Subarus are great for a lot of things, but my little Impreza just doesn't have the ground clearance to get over three feet of ice.

Just remember this, all you "what knife will you take with you at the end of the world..." guns and knives are USELESS when you're trapped inside your house without a shovel. Actually, I did use my RTAK to chop up the snow to make it easier to shovel.

Once I got out of my drive way, I packed some clothes and my cat and went to a friend's house. I was ok, but when the cat started to get cold, I knew it was time to leave. Got home today and had power. Now I've just got to clean out the refrigerator.

If there is a plus side to all of this, this came in the mail today, and I've been really excited about this for a while now:

And now we're supposed to get more snow this weekend.

Yes . a mere dusting !
This years Sn*w Drift was more challenging since it was all ice ! Just like ours the previous weekend at Rally New York ! At Sn*w Drift Crazy Pastrana won ,with Block DNF with suspension problems .Rally on !!

I came here in 1999 to go to school at WCU,

My dad graduated from there back in the early 80's. We moved to Montana in early January '84, and we were driving through snow drifts in a chained-up U-Haul. I figured I'd never have to go to school again. Wrong. I went to school with kids WHO WORE SNOW SHOES and walked to the bus stop at 5am every morning. Talk about a culture shock. From 'dusting' to 'blizzard' in a weeks' time.

Glad your power's back up.
