Here is a quick shot of a knife I am making for a soldier in Iraq. I met him on a flight recently, when he was coming home for mid tour leave. he was unable to stay for the holidays. During our conversation, knives came up. He loves knives, but can't justify the cost of some of the customs he likes. I gave him my card and told him to cheack out my site. If he liked anything, it was his. If not, we would work on a design and I would make it for him. After some back and forth this is what we came up with. It is a 6" blade, 10.25" overall from D2. It will be double edged with partial serrations. The handle will be bead blast canvas micarta. It goes in the oven tomorrow. If I can ever shake this cough (it is wearing me out) I am hoping to have it finished up next week. I am pleased with how it is coming along. i am not a fan of finger grooves, but it's what he asked for.

The design looks great. I just made a similar knife for a serviceman minus the finger grooves. I think the grooves are quite functional and give a super grip to the knife. I also beadblasted the blade and micarta handle. I made a really nice package. He will really be pleased with this knife . It's nice to do something for our servicemen .

I love seeing these. Good on you for seeing to it that the lad is well equipped, our service men and women deserve the best we can give them.

That looks like it's going to be a wicked one! Good on you for this generous gesture!

What a lucky Soldier. When I flew home for R&R leave last year I got stuck sitting next to a high school teacher who regaled me with his opinons on the war on terror and how Pres Obama would be getting us out of Bush's illegal war and all that. I really wanted to bust him in the mouth but figured it would'nt be a a lot of fun if I spent R&R it in jail.

Thank you, everyone, for the kind words. I very much feel honored to be able to make a knife for this soldier. My only goal is to give him a knife that will serve him well.

Hooah. You are a Good American. They appreciate even little gestures. I can't imagine how many times he will show that knife off to his buddies. It will most likely become a family heirloom. God Bless.

Thanks again. The knife was rough grouond today. I will try to remember to get some pics to post.

OK, here we have a bad picture. I need to learn how to use the digital camera properly. I bought the thing to take picture of my knives:rolleyes:

Another update. I have the handles roughed. I just need to thin them a bit in a coupld of spots and clean up the chamfering for the finger grooves. Then it gets bead blasted!

Thanks for looking.

Looks great, very cool gesture. Look forward to seeing pics when it's all finished. Just got an email today from a soldier my wife and I sent a care package to. Nothing better than doing a little something for those that do so much for ALL of us.

Hope you don't dive into the serrations to quick. They can't go into the field with a sedater blade. I did a couple for my nephews in the Army. One was serrated and he had to send it back to have the serrations removed so I just built him another one.
