WIP karambit

I know this is quite ambitious for only being the 2nd knife I will have completed, but my brother asked me to turn his old Norske saw blade into a karambit. It's been tricky, but so far I think it's going okay! Any advice on getting a nicer surface finish? I know I probably need to hand sand from here, but how would you go about it? Note, if that was one of those with carbide teeth the body of the blade is probably not a good steel

I was going to ask about the saw blade as well. The body metal on those carbide tipped blades is not knife steel and won't hold an edge.

Yeah this is more just practice for me to get better at shaping and sanding cleaner lines and surfaces. I warned my brother that it probably wasn't going to be the best knife steel, but he said he didn't plan on using the knife, he just wanted something "karambit shaped" I guess. Although, I looked on the Norske website and saw the bodies of their saw blades are made with SK5, and this was extremely hard to drill through, so maybe it won't be too terrible! I had to get a carbide drill bit just to get through it.

Interesting. SK5 is somewhat similar to 1084.

That's what I've read too, at least in carbon content

I just looked at a different chart. It is the same carbon, but there seem to be two types of SK5. One is close to 1084 and the other has much higher alloying with Cr, V, W, Mo, and Co.
