I started modifying my BK15 yesterday. The coating felt too grippy and created friction when slicing meat and such so i decided to remove it.

I spendt halv the afternoon hand sanding the coating, and this is about as far as i've got right now.

At the moment I can't really decide on wether to polish the blade or just leave it as it is and let it build up a natural patina. If i do go with the polishing i'll allso get stainless hardware to match the blade and tang.

Its hard work, great job. I think it would look great polished with ss hardware

Looking good.
Are you sayin' you didn't strip it first? That is a LOT of work.

I think they look absolutely awesome polished, with SS hardware on clear or white scales. If that's the way you're leaning.
Personally, I buy Beckers to get 'em dirty so I just strip 'em and speed up the aging process.

I say leave it and work it.
if you want to mod it more, give it grips!

Well, i kind of sripped it. But i did so using sand paper.
Come to think about it, i do have a can of heavy duty paint remover laying around.

I allso buy knives to use them, and they will get dirty, but i think polishing will make the blade as smooth as possible for that teeny tiny bit of extra slicing ability.

Finally pulled my thumb out of my ass and got around to enhancing the grip on this baby.
I wound up stipling the zytel with my soldering iron. Quick and easy fix, but i fell just a little more in love with this blade once i was done.
Allso the patina is starting to build up pretty nicely :D

Nice mods on that 15, it looks great. I have a 5 that I love and have done pretty much what you have done with the 15, the stippling really makes a difference when you're working with wet hands.

Thanks:) I'm dying to get a 5. But i want a 2 allso, so i can't decide wich to get first.

We're supposed to get a lot of rain this weekend so i guess i'll find out how it works out in wet conditions. (Somehow i've developed a soft spot for hiking and fire making in wet and crappy weather... lol)

Mountainmist & Aikiguy: Thanks for replying. You should definately try some stipling. However i suggest practicing a little bit on some plastic before you attack your handles. I know i would have messed this up badly if i didn't try it out on something else first ;)

Good job on the mods. I love the natural patina you have going on and the stippling pattern looks like it gives good hold without being too aggressive.
