Sgian Achlais.

Going to Afghanistan. Not a utility knife.

10 1/4 inches overall. 5 3/8 inch blade. 7/64 along the tang, full distal taper and double edged convex. 5160, of course.

Dark brown canvas micarta and 1040 pin stock (so I could blue it)

The bluing is "first coat" of oxpho-blue from brownell's GET THIS STUFF- it is oil tolerant- oil loving, in fact. Apply with steel wool. Once I'm done making sure I'm good here, I'll use some 0000 on the metals and then do another blue. it won't be perfect, but it will approximate "S&W blue"

then, of course, I'll strop the edge.

Handle scales will need a linseed oil soak once I'm done with the bluing touch ups.

It will have a leather sheath with velcro sewn on for a mag pouch, an IWB, and a belt sheath

Oh, it's not me- my era was the Gulf War. I'm sending more and more of my knives on deployment, though.

thanks, Caine! I should have the sheath photos up shortly. I tossed 2 sheaths on this project because they didn't quite do what was needed. 2 more almost done.

This is an outstanding blade! I keep coming back to look at it. I'm with Caine, I'd gear up with it. Great work on the finish as well.

sheaths are all done.

The velcro sheath is for a magazine pouch. It's a tougher job than it looks because you have to really trim things close to fint the width of the pouch.

The retention sheath has my normal MOLLE compatibility and removable belt hanger. I went with a different retention system on this one, but I think it worked out very well and is definitely secure.

I recently did a field dirk for a customer who wanted to do a slanted carry. The offset holes make that a lot more stable on a molle panel. For a drop legg lacing it shouldn't have any negative effect.

Running the cord through the back top strap you can also lace up a secure horizontal carry on a chest panel.

The final aspect is the ability to put chicago screws in the holes to prevent stab through effects from a helo or vehicle crash
