Heres the proto of a new design....handles roughed out, no final finish

15.5" OAL
10" blade with full length false edge
1095 steel, differentially clay hardened with turnback hamon
full length ironwood scales (will be fully sculpted, thinned when complete)

I am contemplating doing a full destruction test on it...Theres something about it that I just don't like...I think its the forward part of the handle...this just needs a guard, imho... An alternative would be to test it myself, then offer it up as a passaround for others to break....we will see how self abusing I get this weekend....ive wanted to do a full bend test on a blade like this to see the cross section of the hamon in the broken blade for some time now....

if you are just going to destroy those knives, might i suggest pine instead of ironwod? :grumpy:

:) I didnt "plan" to destory this one....it was an afterthought....Once it all came together, I am having second thoughts...If i decide not to sell it, and I am not going to keep it to use...my only options are giving it away or destorying it, and I havent ever done a full destruction test on a clay hardened blade....Theres only about 20$ of materials into this one...the ironwood I cut from a bigger block and the steel is dirt cheap.....

ah but the work is the thing.

Auction that sucker off. IF you don't get $100.00 for then kill it.:D

besides it's mmuch easier to put a hamon on a piece of bar stock and break it. :)

that is sick. Looks like the design would fit perfectly in my hand, i mean in your hand (cough cough)

I think it's really nice and destroying it would be a shame... however I've done the same to several of my own lol.

Very nice, you nailed the hamon, and that wood should look increadable finished. I probably woun't destroy it that far along, but it will let you know just what it will stand.
