My wife wanted a small utility blade to use around the house. Here is where it stands so far. 6 1/4" overall, 1095.

A little more progress for tonight. My plunge lines are rapidly disappearing as I sand the blade! but I guess that's ok for now. Also trying some simple filework.

It's starting to come together. I have some handle shaping and cleanup left. Thanks for the comments

The scaled are paper micarta btw. Not sure if I am a fan of it. It was too easy to grind and seems to attracts stains like a magnet. Ive read about the baking soda paste for cleanup so I guess I'll try that when the time comes.

It looks good, but is it hardened? You never mentioned any heat treating and it seemed to go from bevel grinding to handle attachment really quickly.

If it's not hardened I hope you're ready for daily sharpening duties!:D

The handle and liner combo looks good. I've used the ivory paper micarta and really like how it turns out, especially for kitchen knives:thumbup:

I did heat treat and temper it, but by less than scientific means (non magnetic, quench in hot oil) so I didn't want to advertise and give another newb like myself an excuse for a shortcut :D I should have a propane forge by next month and will be able to do a little better. Here is a picture from the middle of the process:

Ahh, very good!:) From your original post and progression I started to worry that you skipped that part:eek: Hope you enjoy the knife, and post more when you make 'em!

How did you heat your blade? I'm going to have to improvise since I can't find anyone to heat treat O1 anywhere.

Nice looking utility blade, btw.
