Wondering if you would be able to mount one of Spyderco's wire clips on a Para-Military in the tip-up position. I have a Spyderco Urban and wish the Para-Military had the same wire clip on it.

Thanks.

I'm thinking not. Why is because I'm not sure that the pivot will fit between the width of the clip itself on that model. Its a 7/32 pivot barrel as I recall on both the Para Military and the Military folders and I find myself thinking it could risk the whole folder trying to do it. Most of the wire clips on Spyderco folders are set up and working on knives with 5/32 pivot barrels so my inclination is to say its probably not something I'd try. I also can't guarantee that even if it could be done that one would not have to first shorten the pivot barrel some and probably the pivot screw as well if you had to shorten the length of the barrel because once I milled out the inlay for the clip to sit the barrel may be up too far but it all depends on how deep the head of the screw has to recess and since its iffy that the wire clip would even fit around that particular set up to begin with I'm really thinking its one of those areas you are better off not venturing because you could end up in the end with an inlay that keeps you from obtaining proper pivot tension and also a situation where even the original clip did not go back on to cover up the mess like it once did.

Keep in mind that the Para Military already has a 'nested liner' on the underside of the scale on the clip side so its not as much thickness to be milling down into. It could be very easy to perf. the milling cuts and then the whole thing is really getting into an area I'd just hate to be responsible for. One of the things I always look at is what recourse I have if something goes the wrong way. With knives I routinely work on there is really nothing about them that I can't duplicate to get it all back together even if it means remaking a part. Unfortunately the under cuts and nested part of that set up on the Para and even the Military too for that matter, speaking of the scales is a 3D type situation and most of the tools I have available will only allow me to stay within 2D. If I screwed up the scale attempting it I don't have the means to make another one is what I'm trying to say. Sorry. Thanks for asking though.

I think he meant tip-up - wouldn't you have to mount a metal disc inlaid in the scale (butt-end) and then drill and screw a pivot barrel in there to hold the wire clip?

Now putting the clip under the actual pivot - that sounds very dicey.

I say this because i have a para modded like this - tricky, but do-able.

Tip up is going to be just as bad for me. I don't stock the hardware to mount such a thing and if I did the barrel would likely be something that would have to be placed such as to not interfere with the blade closing. I'm having trouble picturing it personally with a barrel.

With an inlay of say a cut off of a barrel already threaded for the right screw size maybe. I have done them on some knives I've rebuilt. If I have a screw with a head big enough to hold the clip down, maybe. I'm not sure I do. Maybe something big like at least a 6-32 or 8-32 would cover it. I'd just have to play with it and see.

No I've tried making them and its just too difficult to do wire clips well for me with the tools I have.
