Wire clip material

Planning on doing something like this to my Opinel. Any idea what material this gentleman used? Open to suggestions as well. Thought about using a Spyderco wire clip, but I'm not sure if I could get the two prongs (for lack of a better term) of the clip into the handle far enough to be secure.

Thanks for the info. Just getting into messing around with knives so I have a lot to learn about what's available and how to use the materials available to me. I'm assuming I'll need to apply heat to that rod to get the tight "U" bend, yes?

I don't want to give advice on the actual doing, as I am far from practiced at that.
You haven't had much response here, so posting again in the knifemaking section would be a good idea.
The link I gave says you should heat to 2100-2250 for working, & expect it to crack if under 1700.

go to a bike shop and ask for spokes stainless,
you will need to heat it for bending, they are pretty springy and easy to find

Mtangent, thanks again. The link didn't work for me for some reason so I didn't realize there were heating guidelines. But, I did google it and see what you were talking about. Thanks for pointing that out for me. I actually have a couple projects around the house I could use that for, too.

Firebolt, thanks for the spoke suggestion. I could probably come by those free of charge if I looked in the right areas. I won't feel so bad when I inevitably screw it all up.

Thanks for the help, people!

How did this turn out??

I have not even attempted yet. It's been so dreadfully cold I haven't even wanted to step into the garage. I work outside so when I get home the last thing I want is to be cold again. Obviously I need a climate controlled garage/shop. ;)

I'll be sure to post pictures when I get it done, though.

Foldinghunter, that's another great suggestion. I may have to do a few and compare. Thanks!
