Any custom scale makers make scales with cutouts for a wire clip for pm2 or manix2? You could use the existing center hole for tightimg down. Might have to bore the hole out to accommodate larger screw.

Might hack my own if I could pickup some extra scales.

A quick Google search (often the answer to most if not all questions like this) shows a guy who appears to have done a shoddy job but a functioning wire clip install on some custom scales, or alternatively someone who put the wire clip under the standard three screws.

I would also think any competent maker could accommodate your request for wire clip milling.

I would hit up Boomer.
IIRC he has done wire clip mods for a Delica and Native 5.

You would have to get the hardware from spyderco.

I took a quick look and IF one of Spyderco's several wire clip models has a barrel bolt and screw sufficiently long enough to span at minimum .400"... that is both scale thicknesses, liners, and blade/frame gap... then is might be possible.

You can only pocket for the screw so much due to the reverse side nested liner pockets. You need to leave sufficient thickness for proper strength between the screw pocket and the liner pocket. The is no existing hole in the stainless liners... however there are openings that would accommodate a through mounting... BUT the fixation reliance is then strictly with the scale material strength. If you pocket the screw too much the scale material could fail in compression as that is the wire clip fixation mode.

The red dot would be the most probably location for the barrel bolt/screw...

Thanks Boomer. Looks like bending a wire between the three bolts like I've seen on this board might be best option.

I didn't think about the weight saving holes in the liners. I just thought there would be material there for the screw to be anchored in.

If you look on Spyderco forums, there is a member who goes by the name Rockscale. I remember he was able to come up with a pretty cool idea. He machined some titanium scales to sandwich the wire clip between the scales and the liners with the clip coming out by the lanyard tube. I will try to find the thread.

I know he sells the scales. Specifically for the para 3 in titanium at the moment. I was lucky enough to get a set for my Manix. I’m waiting for him to make more Manix scales.
