My son is wanting a pair of Beats wireless headphones. I'm thinking that a lot of the cost of them is paying for the name. Anyone have a recommendation on a comparable quality pair at a more reasonable price?

The wife burned up 3 others before getting the beats and they have lasted. She uses them for her daily workouts, had Plantronics, J-buds, and I forget the other one.

Listen, Beats are absolutely CRAP! Do yourself a favor, and stick to BOSE, or the absolute BEST OF THE BEST (Which by the way will cost you, but worth every penny!), SURE. <-that's the actual name. It's what your favorite Rock, Rap, Classical, Pop, and any other musician or artist you can think of use. Not just in the studios, but radio stations, clubs, concerts, and every other place perfection is called for. Only those "In the know.", knows about SURE.

Both bose and beats are garbage. Bose are garbage because they are overpriced. Beats are just garbage.

Here are an assortment of headphone picks in different price ranges and market segments.

A lot of the kids wearing beats are doing it as a fashion statement. It has nothing to do with music. That's OK too as long as we acknowledge that's what we are doing.

Personally I think weless is a bit of a scam anyway. The batteries add weight, you need to take the time to recharge them, and the batteries wear out faster than the rest of the headphones.

If I wanted a good pair if headphones that also look cool I'd get the aiaiai tma-1.

Wireless is always going to cost a chunk, and it doesn't sound as good as wired. The best wireless I've heard so far have been the Bang and Olufson H8 - but they are the better part of $500, and they don't sound as good as the wired $300 B&O H6. *shrug*

Ultimately though, if the kid wants Beats, its unlikely any objective commentary on sound quality is going to sway him. They are a fashion and social statement at this point.

Yea, after talking to him, that's exactly it. I can't complain too much, he is earning and saving the money for them himself.
He volunteered to pull weeds today to earn some extra $$, can't complain about a teenager who wants to work around the house more :D

If your son is interested in sound quality and value, then stick to audio companies like Sennheiser, Beyerdynamics, Audio Technica, Grado, etc. headphone.com is a pretty good resource. Bose does one thing well, active noise cancellation. Everything else is overpriced, over-marketed hype. Beats is all about the branding, you get a lesser quality product for a high-end price. The latest products are better than their earlier products but they are still mediocre compared to real audio companies' products.
