I need a new router for home use and don't want to spend a pile of cash. My D Link DIR 601 was $19.99 5-6 years ago, so.........

Any advice? :o

When I switched ISP's, they gave me a DSL modem with wireless built in and 4 ethernet ports. Only 10/100 though.

My co-workers (IT) scoff at my suggestion more often than not, but find a Belkin router that fits your requirements for coverage. After nothing but frustration from the two D-Link routers I previously owned, I bought a Belkin and was impressed with how intuitive the configuration process was in comparison. I was even able to walk my mother-in-law through setting up a Belkin over the phone even though I wasn't at home to refer to mine. Our ISP recently "upgraded" us to an all-in-one modem/router and the Belkin was given to a family friend, but I would buy another if the need arose.

As an area manager for a contractor for Time Warner Cable I have seen just about every router you can imagine. Just go with the Belkin they are great for the money.

A couple computer guys on here pointed me toward the brand Buffalo. I had never heard of them before, but I took a chance and bought one. I have never once regretted that purchase. Every other router I've had sucked.

Go take a look at the router article on the wirecutter. There are a few factors to think about, and they have some good suggestions for what features you will be able to use, and which you will not. Be aware that a lot of the cheap routers on the market might not give good speeds, or may have very poor security.

I picked up a used Linksys AC1200 on Ebay for $28. Works great!!

Nothing wrong with buying used................

I've been using a Netgear N600 for a few years now. Never a problem and the signal strength is impressive.

Not a fan of netgear after their poor documentation lead to the formatting of my NAS drive. When I contacted them, the worst part was the reply "yeah, we know about that, we should probably fix it"
