Wisconsin Wilderness Anyone?

I want to take a trip to some unknown, remote wilderness. I live in Southeast WI, and I could make it to most areas of northern WI in 5 hours or less.

In northern WI, there are 5 designated "Wilderness Areas" in the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest ranging from 4292 acres to over 18,000 acres.

I would really like to visit one of these and do a multi-day backpacking trip. I have never before been to this area of my state.

Has anyone ever been to one or more of these areas? Is one area a stand out when it comes to the natural resources available to take in?

Is anyone out there from WI?

Thanks,

JGON

Those places you mentioned are all great places but I suggest just a bit further north to the Porcupine Mountains for multi-day backpacking.

Here's a cool trip with Itinerary that the Michigan Bush Rats did.

That does look awesome. You're the GB axe, Marchand Puukko guy, right? Nice tools...

Consider the porcupine mountains added to my list. Is it pretty quiet up there then?

I spent 5 days in the Chequamegon deer hunting. We camped in a canvas outfitter's tent, I think the high temp was around 17, some very fond memories. It was a beautiful area but I will have to check and see exactly where we were. I also spend quite a bit of time in Northern Wisconsin around the Eagle River area, very nice as well.
