One thing on my wish list for Esee to do would be to make the 3 and 5 with a 3/16" thick blade option (similar to 4&6)
I've seen a lot of posts here wishing for the 5 to be thinner , as well as on the Becker forum for the BK2. I think this would be a great option and a big seller. I wouldn't mind seeing it on the 3 as well , just to beef it up a bit and reduce flex, kind of like the Hest. With the flat grind, they would still be excellent slicers, just more robust. The 5 's weight loss given a 3/16" blade would make it a lot handier to carry around as well. I figure these mods would be relatively easy to do, as the existing handle slabs could stay , screws similar to the 4&6 could be used ,and sheaths slightly modded to fit. How many of you guys would like to see this option ? Just some thoughts. :)

BLASPHEMY!! The 5 is perfect the way it is!

Only kidding. I do like the 5 a lot as is, though a flat grind or high saber (like Junglas) would be something.

Rob.

I Like the existing knives a lot, just throwing around some ideas. 5" is a great size for a GP bush blade. A little thinner option wouldn't be bad ,Imo. I bet a lot of people would be all over it if it was offered.

Like the ontario rat 5 but with no choil and esee looks, quality control and warranty is a win

I think 3/16 might be a little thick for the 3 and too near in size to the 4 to make that a viable option for their production. I'd be happy if it was actually a full, or heavy 1/8 inch after the plunge line like the older version that had just a little bit of a flat for part of the spine, but I'll admit I would love to see a 3 in 5/32 like the Izula. I think the dimensions on the 5 and 6 blade length are close enough that to just get the 6 would be the better option there. I've thought about getting a 5 and raising the grind higher, but I'll likely just get the 6 when the time comes.

I have always wonder why all the other knives are ffg and the 5 is saber ground. Anyone know?

A smaller version of the Junglas would be awesome too.

I'm 100% with you. Been pushing Jeff and Mike for a thinner 5 for quite awhile.

Hoping they'll do it just to shut me up.

Sorry I don't have pics, but today I did a whole plie of batonning ,shaving, and fuzzsticking with my 4,5, and 6. I absolutely love the 5/6 handle ergos. My 4 and 6 did the best on all jobs except the really heavy-duty batonning through thicker logs. It is the batonning king , Imo. If I was stuck in the bush for a while though, batonning would be only a small percentage of the tasks I would be doing ; so , would I really want to carry the extra ounces around with me all the time for that advantage? I don't think so.The FFG on the 4 and 6 out cut the 5 everytime on most tasks . A 5" blade is my sweet spot for a bush knife. Like Mistwalker said , the 5 and 6 are very similar in size ,but the sabre grind and thickness of the 5 hinder it for general use , I think. If it had a 3/16" FG blade with the existing handle shape ( please keep the window punch!) it would fill that gap for people who want something bigger than a 4 but smaller than a 6 , with not a big weight penalty. I've kinda re-thought what I said about the 3 also. Keep it the way it is. It works great!
Just my couple 'o cents using my Esee's today.

I’ve been harping on the 3/16” 5 too. 5” blades at the bomb-diggity. Shotgunner, put Jeff in a head lock until he agrees.

TTD and I will keep asking for a Bushcraft blade as well. :D

I love my RC-5, but have to admit a 5 with the width of a 4/6 would be nice, as an addition to the lineup. I know the 5 was designed to be something totally different and it succeeds at that. I just find myself carrying my 3, 4 or other mfg knives more than the 5 for the type of outdoor stuff I do. I'd carry a thinner 5 a lot more I think.

I could definitely see a niche for a 5 with a slightly thinner blade, but not a 3 with a thicker one. As someone else mentioned, the HEST covers that niche. Also, the 3's sliciness would suffer with thicker stock. I agree with Jeff that it's the best knife in the lineup, and is perfect the way it is.
