Wish I hadn't lost my TEKNA Boot Knife

A few years ago, I had my Tekna Boot Knife strapped with rubber straps to my calf as my brother and I were kayak surfing in Florida. After a particularly violent wave that knocked me out of my boat, I was standing in knee-to-hip-deep water that was roiling raucously and somehow, my Tekna came free of my calf and slid down my ankle. Now, I was wearing a surfboard leash on that ankle, which was attached to the bow of my kayak, so I don't know how the knife ended up anywhere but strung somewhere along that rubber tether, but it did. I can only assume that the buckles of the twin rubber straps somehow *both* came undone. There's really no other explanation.

So I went around to some local dive shops and found a realllly pathetic selection of dive knives. Most shops had the crappy United Cutlery (ohmigod, did I *really* just CAPITALIZE that name?!) er... "stuff" and hardly anything more. One shopkeeper informed me that Tekna was out of business and had been for some time.

The knife never really had such a great edge, but it was tough as hell and would spear *anything* with the spine it had -- a real thick diamond cross-section. The sheath was pretty secure, too. And it was a double edged knife, with double serrated sections as well. I miss it.

Does anyone know of where a replacement (preferably new, but who knows?) can be obtained? Help would surely be appreciated. Is there maybe a warehouse somewhere that a bunch of these are just sitting in?

For regular use knives that can easily serve as dive knives...

These Cold Steel knives are made with 420 Steel and Kraton handles. They come with Concealex Plastic Sheaths. They are not the best knives to be had, but their shortcomings become virtues when you take them into the surf. They are better made than many dive knives, and certainly leagues better than many knives in it's price range.

I used to have a Tekna dive knife that I used for kayaking also. Somehow, somewhere I lost it. That knife was my "must have knife" about 15 years ago. I to would love to know where I could get another one.

Try the Kershaw Amphibian http://www.kershawknives.com/amphibian.htm.

I bought it as a replacement for my Tekna, and it works virtually identically. The polymer insert and the slight swell in the handle made for a better grip. I got used to not having the serrations on both sides, and actually found the single full edge to be more useful.
