Wish There Were More Non-Flippers

I love ZT. One of my favorite brands. I carry my 0550 all the time and love it.

I also have an 0350 and 0700. These are both great knives too. The feel , performance and F&F is excellent. But I do not like the flipper on them. Not at all.

Maybe it's because I take all the clips off my knives and carry them straight in the pocket or in a dedicated pouch. That extra bit of blade tang used to "flip" with just bugs me. I'm more than content using just the thumb studs.

I understand it's function and it's appeal to some people. And I'm not faulting anyone's preference. To each his own. But I do wish that ZT would have more non-flipper models available (like the 0550).

Just voicing a thought. I still love the 0350 and 0700. Just not as much as the (flipperless) 0550.

The one thing I would change about the 0550 is to add a flipper, to each his own I guess.

I prefer flippers to thumb studs. Most knives seem to cater to right-handed people, so the thumbstuds a lefty would use are almost always recessed or more difficult to use. The 0350 is an example of this. I can use the thumbstuds but the flipper is far more comfortable.

Yeah I'm a big fan of the flipper because it is easy to use and fun to play with. Now if they made knives with the flipper as an option....

If you don't like the flipper, you can always grind it off or have it professionally ground off, and just use the thumb studs for blade deployment. I like the flippers on mine.

someone had a 561 that had the flipper ground off on the exchange a few days ago. It looked good. I tend to clip em, so the flipper doesn't bother me, and I use the thumbstuds/bladestops almost all the time. I'm good either way.

Haha. Yeah , everyone has their preference. I think I am definitely in the minority here since I would rather do without flippers. But again , I don't "hate" them. I just don't care for them at all.

I have considered grinding them off. But I'm hesitant.

However , I do crave a "flipperless" 0700 tanto. Siiiiiiigh.

Also , who was the first to come up with the flipper ? Was is Kershaw ?

I Like the convenience of a flipper to open a knife but I want the thumb stud to provide extra real estate when closing, call me fickle

I'm almost 100 percent positive it was Mel Pardue.......kit Carson made it popular though.

I dont have a flipper (not yet :P) so I dont know what to expect. But I think I prefer a non flipper, it would be nice to see some more knives without flipper from ZT/kershaw. I really like the 0550 but it's a little bit to expensive so I'm going to order a cryo 2, that would be my first flipper.

But I will say that limited edition orange G10 0350 (with flipper & SpeedSafe) is still very appealing to me. Flipper or not , I want it.

I don't have a problem with it. Also being a lefty, adaptation for the sake of carrying a knife I really like is just par for the course for me. Right now is the first time since November I haven't carried my Blur, and I'm carrying an XM-18 flipper. It's in my left pocket, and I can still draw and deploy it easily.

I'm a thumbstud person also, and I'm proficient with any design with studs. You just get used to things, and I like to respect the designer's vision if it's something I appreciate.

its an added safety measure for me. i dont see the lock ever failing, but if it did its nice to know the flipper is there to help me not lose any fingers. i have a hard time really trusting a folder without a flipper.
