Let me be a little kinder
Let me be a little blinder
To the faults of those around me
Let me praise a little more
Let me be when I am weary
Just a little bit more cheery
Think a little more of others
And a little less of me.
Let me be a little braver
When temptation makes me waver
Let me strive a little harder
To be all that I should be
Let me be a little meeker
With the brother that is weaker
Let me think more of my neigbor
And a little less of me.
Let me be when I am weary
Just a little bit more cheery
Let me serve a little better
Those that I an striving for
Let me be a little meeker
With the brother that is weaker
Think a little more of others
And a little less of me.
Less of me.
The above come from a tune sung on albums by both Glen Campbell and The Statler Brothers. The author of the lyrics is not attributed in any place that I've seen. Hear it sung a few times and it subconciously seems to keep running in your head long after the music is over.
Oddly, the desert fathers ( IIRC ) used a technique called a breath prayer, usually a short one they repeated continuosly until it became automatic, even in their sleep.
If you can get a copy of the song as sung, you might want to try singing along until it continues subconciously.
I'm going try doing just that myself, and though I already know it well, try to remember to sing it in the back of my mind each day instead of remembering it once or twice a month, if that often.
I offer it to you if you wish. Happy New Year to all.
