wishing for more stuff on the website

The online store already has a pretty good representation of what H.I. has to offer, Only the most regularly produced items are for sale there. Auntie has only limited space in Reno to keep in stock items for the store and sells her surplus items, limited runs, special products and blems at the forum here.

As most of H.I. sales come from the forum here, there are no immediate plans to reconstruct the Online store, as that would prove costly. Auntie would then probably have to raise prices and she is trying to keep costs, all around, as low as she can. If the Online store were more profitable, then it might possibly be something to consider.

You can already do comparisons here by using the information in the Link Library and by using the Forums search function.

Welcome to the Forum RandomAyes, glad to have you. Kaqrda is right about few sales going through the online store. Between the two web sites you can get an idea of the HI selection and become educated about the khukuris, kamis, BirGorkha and HI's history.

The Forum is a good place to expand that basic knowledge. Looking through the picture galleries such as the "Missing Pages of the HI Catalogue" will expose you to many of the variants that don't show up all of the time. The Forum's Search function is now available to all members and will allow you to research any particular style of khuk. Nearly all of HI's khuk styles have been reviewed and/or discussed on the Forum and are a source of knowledge. Also, if you have a question that you haven't seen addressed, please feel free to post it here and the other members are glad to pass on what we can.

Have fun and hear from you later.

Rick

I would like - scratch that - I would LOVE to be able to see all HI products in the e-store. It would help me do comparisons based on price, weight/length stats, availability, etcetera. I realize it would be a big old pain in the neck to update that site... but pleeeeease consider. :o

RA?

One person in Reno working to make this whole deal function: Yangdu. From this one person comes the site, the forum, the international shipping, the international communication of specifics (and the "special orders"), the daily specials, the website orders, ALL the shipping, and the transfer of funds to Nepal's workforce for the livelihood of the kamis and helpers.

Add in the occasional effort to take a Nepali kid, send him to medical school, and have him return to work in Nepal and you have a fairly full day. :)

Here's Pen's comparisons, back in the day when he had access to CAD stuff in Virginia. Enjoy.

I have offered my services and been told they are not needed as far as the website is concerned.
I am not asking for pay either, nor would I want any, I just have time and like to help.

It isn't something she wants to fix. It is her company and so it is her decision so I honor her wishes.
If she ever changes her mind, she knows how to get in touch with me.

Actually, we (the forumites and customers alike) still CAN help Auntie by posting clear and detailed pictures of our khuks (best alongside a ruler) with some fair and simple explanations. Just like Warty usually does his.
From all angles, In hand, weight, dimensions etc.etc.
I just wish those treads could be organized in like sub-folders (say Dui Chirra and all DC reviews to go there)
it would be much easier to find a specific model for newbies and reference for oldtimers:) too.
Don't know if this is possible...hint to Karda?

I am sure Karda has plenty in real life to do and hasn't the time to sort through thousands of threads to "put them into folders" like that... it would be nice but it would also take forever to do. I think you need to take a moment a tour the archives here and see just how many threads there really are, just relating to HI. Perhaps you may then understand what a monumental task such a thing would be...

I meant "from now on"... \ I didn't ask Karda to do it, but to advice if it can be done.

Look...people whine for a reason (most of the time). To put it very short:
The faster a potential customer orientates and finds his model the faster he will buy one. Simple.
Not only through the DOTD but the stock from the shop too. Faster sales, better living for kamis.
Unfortunately profit comes form customers only. At least that's how i see it.

We are living in uber fast world...take the fact that i'm almost chatting with you now...being an ocean and a continent away.
People are used to fast information and not finding it leads to frustration and possibly drop off's.

The organising i've done around here so far was about enough kill my eyeballs and drive me more insane than i already am. I will see what i can do to organise things into "folders" as you say. I have been thinking along those lines for awhile, but as warty pointed out, it is no easy task by any means.

Point taken:)
Just don't think we don't appreciate it. We Do:thumbup:

I'm frankly a little confused. What on-line store? All I see are daily, or almost daily offerings of three or four knives. It beats me how one gets a knife of their choice. Could you kind folks educate me? I wouldn't mind getting one of the older kuk's if possible.

folders? what? we can do that?

i went mad organizing my forum for a while, generated an FAQ (which nobody reads ;> and attempted to cull the best thread links into that, etc; i think it was worth it.

well, if you look UP TOP there, there's a link to http://www.himalayan-imports.com/ yes? that's the "store"...

the inside secret is that you call or better yet email Aunti Yangdu with your exact requirements, and see what she can do for you. she has a way of finding what you need. you might have to actually order some items to be made, which takes time, and provide a gentle reminder from time to time (weeks/month+) just to be sure. you'll get what you want that way, instead of waiting generally speaking.
