This sux. Jan 1st my company is shutting off Internet access for me and about 20 other people. Nothing like getting booted back to the Dark Ages. I told my wife that I was starting to look for a new job, and she said, "B*LLSH*T! The only job you are going to work next is for yourself right in your OWN shop!"

That made me smile, but I think it's going to be a tough transition. I got bills to pay. Luckily, she has a really good job, but that alone isn't quite enough monetarily to keep us safe and sound. I'll have to work at paying a few bill off, and make a few knives and get back into selling them.

Anyone want to buy a knife? :D

I say go for it Jeff. If I wasnt the only bread winner for two wives and a child . I would have made the jump already. Pay off as many bills as you can, diversify, and enjoy life. As much as you enjoy motorcycles, you could make a little extra cash working on those. Buys some junkers and fix em up and sell em'. I still think with your machinery skills , you could make folders and balisongs to put groceries on the table.

Good luck with whatever you decide.

Man...that will be a transition for sure.(Switching Jobs). Just take it steady and slow. Make what you can .... they'll be bought I am sure of it ;)

Lol, great advice, Mark. I think that's exactly what I'll do. Gotta get them ducks in a row. Best part about this is that I have a ton of materials already to generate a ton of knives. Not sure where I'll start next, but be certain it'll be fun!

My son said to me last week: Dad, I think I am going to set a goal for myself. I want to be out of the house and into my own house by July 4th, 2005. I'm going to call it: Patrick's Independence Day."

I am thinking if I worked hard enough at it, I could make the same timeline my goal for Jeff's Independence Day!

I am leaning twards the Van ;)

Edited to read : For weekend getways from the office :D

good luck higgy, stock pile some finished work and some half done stuff for a while, keep a bunch ready to work on, and always have something to sell, then once it looks good go for it, like mark said pick up a little side job to help out with cash here and there. ya know come to think of it, i've never seen you post a finished knife. ;)

LOL Dan, I don't think I have even made a knife since last March when I got busy with the house. Hmm... take that back... I made the ugly knife, but it weren't ugly enough. I did post that. Okay then, I'll set to finishing one and put it up here! :p

That sucks cheesenuts, but good luck if you venture out on your own!! Like others said, make a knife. :D

How much machine shop equipment do you own Jeff?

I have a complete shop at home, minus a surface grinder. I've been using the SG at work here to do what I needed, neglecting to buy one for myself. Suppose I'll have to now, because I hate making folders without one. :(

I have a horizontal mill, lathe, saws, grinders, drill presses, sand/bead blasters, HT oven, forges. anvils, welders, torches, etc... why do you ask? Just curious...

One can never have enough machinery, Don. ;)

He HE....I know where I am going when you move 1 hr from me ;)
Damn nice shop! Now get some of that stuff in NC you big yankee.....

When I try to go to my website from work, it blocks me and comes up as "Weapons". I will probably just be a matter of time before I can no longer come to the forums.

Big Brother.... Oh well.....
