With All Due Respect, Could The Mod Who Anonymously Moved My Thread Please Explain Why?

Because unless it was my foolishly linking it in a post in the Benchmade subforum to maybe get a little more attention from people who buy Benchmades, I'm failing to see what made the thread I started here unfit for General Knife Discussion.

Because the reason I posted the thread on the Adamas in General Knife Discussion, was for the purpose of having a discussion on the subject with the general population of the forum, because the general population here is larger than the fan base of Benchmade here.

I was attempting to reach people who may have seen or bought one like this at a show who may not necessarily be a fan of Benchmade in general. People who are knife fans like me, but not necessarily Benchmade fanboys, in hopes of getting some unbiased information or comparison thoughts on other counterfeits. I mean I like some Benchmades, and I own a few, but when I posted the pictures in the Benchmade Knockoff thread last night, that was the first time I had ever even been in the Benchmade subforum in the 18 years I've been a paying member here. And when I linked the thread that got moved it was the second time ever. I did not ask to have it identified as fake or real here, I just wanted to know if anyone else here had seen one like it.

So I guess what I want to know is, if General Knife Discussion is not the correct place for me to try to have a discussion about a knife with the general population of the forum, could you kindly tell me where I should do that in the future? Or if linking it in the Benchmade subforum was the problem, I would much rather have had that thread removed.

Thank you
Kind regards
Brian

You posted a reply in the fakes threads, which is fine. Then you started two separate threads on the same same subject. I merge them and put them into the most appropriate section. If you want the best, most correct answers that’s where it should be.

Starting multiple threads on the same subject doesn’t actually get you answers quicker. In fact, it may delay the process. It also may create redundant posts from those who reply.

Since I chose to send a notification also the software doesn’t have a way for me to let you know who it was. Also I’ll move this thread to the correct section.

Thank you very much for the information, that's very helpful. I'll know to refrain from doing multiple posts in the future.

Had I not created the post linking it in the Benchmade subforum, would it have been left in Genera Knifel Discussion as it was? Or would I have had to phrase the question differently, and leave the brand name out of the discussion all together for that, if I'm mainly wanting to put the question to the general populace for information on counterfeits with this level of attention to detail and precision? Or is there a specific section for that?

I ask this because it has been my experience that I get better answers quicker from individuals here than I get from companies when it comes to some things. Or even just answers the questions I ask rather than answering questions I didn't ask

For instance I have an older maroon/purpleish Spyderco Manix2 lightweight in S30V I picked up from a friend who has a resale shop, that was in a mismatched box and some slight color anomalies on one edge of the handle. I at first couldn't find an example of this color and steel on the net anywhere. Since the engraving, grind lines, and ball bearing lock all look legit, and it is extremely sharp I took a series of hi rez detailed images of it and sent them to spyderco and simply asked them if they had made any of this model in this color and this steel.

The response I got from Spydero in return was they could not tell by the images I sent if it was a counterfeit or not, that if I wanted to know if it was a counterfeit or not I'd have to send it to them and if they determined it to be a counterfeit, they would ship it back to me at my expense.

So with me taking the reply as having a rather asinine wording to a an answer to a question I didn't ask it, (maybe it's AI generated...) and taking it as they were inferring they had indeed at least produced such a Manix 2 I didn't even bother to respond and am carrying the knife which is so far doing fine.

Thank you for your input, some things have changed in look and function since I first started lurking here 20 years ago, and I spent two years not having time for the forums when I was documenting what was happening in Chattanooga and Atlanta from early 2020 through 2021

All the best
Brian

Your link wasn’t a problem. I simply clicked on the new posts and saw two of the same threads started. Had you not started two threads so close in time that they came up so close on the same page it probably would have gone unnoticed. A thread being moved to or started in the manufacturer section isn’t purgatory.

I read your thread and you were asking if your knife was authentic. I moved it to the best place for you to get that answer.

Moving your thread to a specific manufacturer section isn’t necessary about having the company themselves reply. It is the best place to get answers because the people that are interested in that brand most frequently check there.

Okay, thank you. I was just curious because I first put it in the Benchmade Knockoff thread wanting specific Benchmade information. Looking back I felt I probably should have worded it differently in General Discussion if all I was going for was info on the level of precision in the cloning these days.

That said, Benchmade chimed in on the knockoff thread and confirmed my suspicions that it was some kind of fluke mistake rather than a counterfeit

Pretty cool to go from wondering if your knife is a scary accurate counterfeit to finding out it has a cool back story :

I will endeavor to create less work for you in the future :D

I'm going to lock the thread now and let it sink.
