Congrats man! I can get hair whittling edges on the sharpmaker with a strop along side. Its a good system. I have a set of 320 grit stones that allow me to reprofile as well.

Nice! As long as you can keep the blade angle consistent, the result will generally be good. Glad to hear the Sharpmaker is capable of excellent results.

Yes......yes it is.

For years I have been stropping my edges on a 4 sided loaded strop. Never even bothered to check if my knives would whittle a free hanging hair. Then I finally decided to check. I was very pleased! Even knowing my edges had been that sharp for many years, it was just fun.

congrats. Did you use the ultra fine stones or just the fine?

What stones are those? Are they congress stones? I've been looking into getting some of those.

I was just working on my s30v ukpk, just curious, how long did it take you to get to hair whittling sharp? Also wondering did you sharpen at 20 degrees? I know some people like a thinner edge, but it seems like using the "back bevel" 15 degree setting.. it takes a VERY long time.. I'm still reading through more sharpmaker info, glad to see they are capable of hair-whittling sharpness, maybe my angle is imperfect or I am too eager for the blazin' edge!

I can get the same results with mine, though it takes me about an hour to even get to the leather strop if my knife is really dull and then about 10 minutes or so on the strop.

OK thanks much, I've been going to the strop too soon. Still used to carbon steel blades.. Thank you, I'll be hair whittling shortly...

I got some 240 grit moldmaster stones from Congress Tools. I clip them on the Sharpmaker stones and they make going from dull to sharp much faster.
