Most of the knives I own are a bitt on the heavy side, ok when wearing jeans, but with summer drawing near I think I am lacking a good light weight knife to carry while wearing shorts. Right now my PM2 are best, of the knives I currently own. I think my collection is lacking a good "shorts" knife. Something light weight (obviously) but not too small. I don't like to carry anything much smaller than a 3.5 inch blade. I am looking hard at the Benchmade 940-1. Any other suggestions for consideration?

No suggestions in particular, but during the summer months my hands tend to sweat more, so I always appreciate a knife that has a positive grip with grippy G-10 over a knife with polymer or other smooth material handles. Just something to keep in mind too.

David Boye folding boat knife. Any of the Al Mar lightweight series, there are three sizes. Spyderco delica.

Spyderco Manix2 S110V... lightweight FRN handle, sounds like size wise it's just about right for you, and the S110V cuts like a laser. The only rub is that they tend to sell out very quickly so to snag one you have to be vigilante.

a Mantix 2 is 5 ounce. I'd be better off with my PM2...looking for something really light.

Wrong knife. He's talking about the Manix 2 LIGHTWEIGHT. :)

length overall 8.03" (204 mm)
blade length 3.37" (86 mm)
blade steel CPM 110V
length closed 4.66" (118 mm)
cutting edge 2.88" (73 mm)
weight 2.9 oz (82 g)
blade thickness 0.125" (3.2 mm)
handle material FRN

940/943 you mentioned is a good call

Also consider: Endura (trust me), Manix S110v LWT, Military

It's 90 to 100 degrees for up to six months straight where I live and I also carry Glock 19 sized handguns everyday..In shorts when it is hot so I really value lightweight knives. The BM943, PM2/Millie, Manix S110v, BM 710, are some of my best options...Endura and Pacific Salt serrated is about top on my list. As far as smaller knives, BM707, Dfly, and Delica are awesome when it's 100 degrees EDCing a handgun.

Pacific Salt.

It's the same size as the Endura, but lighter (it uses the old Endura 3 linerless handle) and the H-1 blade won't rust.

You need a new set of shorts.

Or are you wearing Daisy Dukes?

Just some cargo shorts...I say no thanks to "Daisy Dukes" because,....auh...I'm not a chick.

I never wear shorts any time of the year (10 long scars on each leg, shorts aren't flattering to me.) But if I did, they'd be Reno 911 shorts.

I carry a 10 oz megafolder comfortably in a leather pancake rig I made.

My go to knife while wearing shorts is the Spyderco Delica. Now that is a bit smaller than you requested but the Endura definitely would be a great candidate. They are amazingly comfortable clipped inside the waist band and yet hold up to even the toughest tasks. The only other knife that comes close to my Delica is the Kershaw Skyline.

An endura would be great. The BM you listed too. If you want to drop like $25 a Byrd cara cara 2 (cheap chinese version of endura, still good though). Kershaw shallot. (4.4 oz though). For the 3.4 ounce range you can get a ka-bar piggyback or bakonmaker. There are alot of good choices out there. I personally have never gotten to needing a light weight knife but for your specs a endura may be the way to go.

I would go with the manix 2 lightweight, its air light and s110v cutting performance is just downright incredible, plus its about a 3.4" blade with perfect ergos that comfortaby fill your hand. Theres also the stretch in either vg-10, zdp-189 or super blue, the last two being very high performing steel, again the stretch is another spydie with perfect ergos and its a very efficient slicer, also a light knife with a 3.5" blade.
