Wives' Knives! or the "my wife has better knives than you"! thread

So in the last few months I've seen several threads asking about good knives for the wife/girlfriend. I figure what better way to answer that than posting up some pics, and a story to go with them if you want.

My wife had zero interest in knives until I ordered and received a custom chef knife from James Terrio. As soon as she actually had the chance to use a quality product she asked "can you pick me out a good folder so I don't have to always us scissors"? Yep she was hooked!

I have carefully picked out knives per her likes and size (5'4) and she doesn't leave the house now without one clipped to her pocket! She takes longer to pick out a knife in the morning than I do, and after awhile I realized she color coordinates with her outfits too. Also, these are HER knives...I do not touch them except to sharpen, check pivot tightness, lube etc. If I tried to carry one there would be a fight I think. And finally, I know she's in love with knives when she expects to get a new one on her birthday every year. She's already asked if I'm doing reasearch for this year. Her birthdays coming up soon!

So I hope this thread will help you guys get your significant other into knives!

List of her knives: Benchmade mini grip, Kershaw talon, Opinel no.7, Kershaw blur, customized Kershaw shappire, Spyderco sage, Lone Wolf dark raven, Mcusta, Kershaw centofante. Not shown is any of her fixed blades.

That's awesome man. Terrio is a great maker. :)

Kitchen knives make great gateway drugs for the addiction.

Here's the Santoku that I had made for my wife this Christmas.

From maker Ian Hall done in CTS XHP.

She really wants a pairer and others to make a set. Can't argue with that! ;)

Thanks for kind words, gents :)

My wife doesn't have any of her own knives, she just keeps "borrowing" mine.

I got tired of my wife borrowing mine, so I threatened to get her one. I had a customized mini-Grip all planned out with the dark blue handle, s30v steel, satin hardware, and she said "get me the knife that I really like." Which would be this one:

An acquaintance lent some of his knives to me to try-before-buy, and every time my wife opened the Adamas she got a silly little grin on her face. Yeah, I was thinking small and dainty, she wanted the tank! I sent the scales off to get Cerakote on them, and she's very happy.

Best I've been able to do so far with my wife is a Leatherman Style on her keychain. She seems to like it and has mentioned several times that she's used the "pen knife" I put on her keychain. And then she showed me a Kobalt folding box cutter that she carries in her purse "for cutting boxes but if I had to could use it for defense." So maybe there's an opportunity there. But when I showed her a Delica she didn't seem interested.

Maybe a Kershaw Leek in purple...

I got my girl a kershaw cryo, that lasted about a month before she got a hold of my kershaw knockout and fell in love so now she has her own knockout. The best is that she bought me this custom for Xmas so I should probably be looking for something a bit nicer for her bday.

This guy has the secret to my problem! I would love my wife to be interested in knives and this seems like the perfect way to do so! btw, love the analogy

No pics, but her small (but growing) collection is kinda cool. :)

  1. Ritter mini-grip (stonewashed w/black)
  2. Ritter grip (stonewashed w/black)
  3. Tan BM Grip with black sheepsfoot blade
  4. Kershaw Blur (black/black)
  5. Spyderco Endura 4
  6. Spyderco Dragonfly Tattoo (her favorite)
  7. Rough Rider Fat Boy
  8. Leatherman Squirt
  9. Kershaw Wild Turkey
  10. Kershaw Compound
  11. Case Whittler
  12. Buck 110
  13. CRKT Blue Ripple
  14. Set of Buck Kitchen Knives in paperstone & a Victorinox Bread knife - but used by both of us

Proud of her. :)

[Edit: She also has gotten into buying quality scissors/shears. She went from a small box of cheap Walmart crap to 3 very nice and fairly expensive Kai shears. She says that the difference is day-and-night. I certainly believe that.]

I have my wife hooked now. She has the Kershaw Chive, Scallion, and Leek in both rainbow and pink (including a Damascus/pink Scallion), a purple spiderweb Blur, Centofante, and most of the rest of the Chives; Spyderco maroon Meercat, Dragonfly tattoo, titanium Salsa, and Domino; Benchmade blue/black Butch Ball flipper, and pink Ritter mini Grip.

This is my wife's custom pink olight S15 with GITD lanyard and her ripple 1 w/ GITD powder in the holes (and her keychain rainbow Chive)

This is her two EDC's along with my Rat-2 and Dfly salt she frequently uses when she doesn't want to risk loosing the Ripple. Notice the Rat-2 has glow epoxy in its spare clip mount holes.

Some great entries in here. As of late my wife carries a Kershaw Funxion EMT. She likes the fact that it's got a glassbreaker and seatbelt cutter. We've each been in a couple car accidents and those features make her feel a little more prepared.

And now that we're dealing with the winter weather, she loves how my BK 11 fits in all her jackets. So she pretty much took over that one.

And I know this isn't a knife, but last year I picked her up a baton to keep in her purse (thanks Wali ). Since I can't always be with her, I feel good knowing she can bust someone's ass if they make trouble for her and my daughter.

On a side note, she already took her concealed carry course and filed the paperwork. It's already been about 3 months. Won't be much longer and she'll be able to legally carry her firearm

This is where I would like to say I wished I was married to Lisantica.

Gosh that girl has a good collection and I would love to play with her knives. :D
