Day Two:
Yes Dirk, it was different without you this year - same show though - lots of lookers...
Well, the Don Cowles HUMP is in the mail to a satisfied customer; he stood there and almost cried when I bought that knife. It seemed that he had been wanting it since he saw it at the Badger Show in Wisconsin. Ah, they say, the pen was mightier then the sword - at least my fountain pen was! So instead of Don's knife (I do have 3 already...) I now have a different Don's knife, this one a damascus single bladed Don Hanson Sunfish, Elephant Toenail, Rope Knife, call it what you want, but I am going to call this one absolutely effing beautiful....full color scrim by his wife on creamy white (probably) mammoth ivory:
LUST AWAY ME HEARTIES, LUST AWAY!!!
Isn't she beautiful? Sort of reminds me, in a soft, sensual way, of the Goddess of Vengence...
The other knife I got was a three bladed swell (or humpback) jack whittler by the Mississippi Knife Maker Bobby L. Toole. If you don't know Bobby's work, it is impeccable; he's somewhat a traditionalist; and sometimes recreates older folder patterns. This is a classic whittler, with green jigged bone. He also had a two bladed trapper with the same bone - but I got aced out before I could offer to buy both...enjoy:
