Has anyone seen the trailer for the new Wolverine movie? The first Wolverine movie was entertaining. I stopped reading the comics right around the time his adamantium was ripped out of his body. I just lost interest with the story. I picked through the Origin storyline, then gave it up when I read an issue at the comic shop that involved Wolverine giving Cyclops a magic sword that was the only object out there that could kill Wolverine.

However, there are two really good stories out there. The Weapon X story, where Wolverine is captured after an all night bender, given enough tranquilizers to drop an entire herd of elephants, and is given an adamantium skeleton. He has visions while he is under of slaughtering the entire complex, but finally comes to out in the snow after a training exercise (which involves fighting a Bengal tiger ). He really does slaughter most of the complex then, and escapes out into the northern wastes. Presumably, those Canadian superheroes found him a couple years later. This story wasn't so much butchered as compressed in the first Wolverine movie.

The next story is when Wolverine travels to Japan, after he has joined the X-men, and I won't ruin that for anyone that hasn't read the storyline. Wolverine gets his butt kicked by a Yakuza warlord, who also happens to be his girlfriends father. It looks like this storyline will be the basis for the new Wolverine movie.

Both of these stories are probably the best of the Wolverine myth, I would hope that they can make this movie just as good as the comic. The Dark Knight tried to live up to the feel of the Dark Knight Returns comic. Is that too high of a caliber for Wolverine?

I wasn't that impressed with the trailer, it looked basically like Hugh Jackman with some props, doing acrobats. Not a trailer for a Wolverine movie.

Looks like it will be a good movie. He was always my favorite character. My affinity towards knives/blades aside. He is basically an under-powered mutant (All he does is heal and have a couple of blades) who kicks the holy crap out of most he encounters.

I loved the Yakuza storyline involving his girlfriend. Man, that had to be like 20 or 30 years ago!

Jackman has done a good job with Wolverine, but I still have a hard time getting over the fact that he should be like a foot shorter.

I never worried about movie Wolverine vs comic Wolverine's height before. I will admit that I thought they were going to get someone shorter. Wizard magazine actually suggested someone like Dustin Hoffman once .

Other than Weapon X and the Japan storyline, do any others jump out that had Wolverine at the center? I remember when Magneto ripped his adamantium out, but that wasn't as good as these two storylines.

I want to see the stories where he was a secret agent etc. There were a couple mini series that focused on him before Team X and the adamantium, where he was a secret agent. Kind of went into why all the bad guys, all over the world, hate and fear him.

He was pretty much a majority of peoples' favorite. Thats why the Xmen movies all but revolved around him.

It seems there is a trend with producers casting people who don't fit the physical description in the book/comic. When the new Jack Reacher movie came out I was excited...Was.

In the book Jack Reacher is 6 foot plus (Don't remember) and >200 pounds. Basically an unusually imposing man. Described as a giant a couple times. I expected Dolph Lundgren or similar, and got Tom Cruise...wtf

I know. I was psyched to hear that Reacher was being made into a movie and then they post the person most opposite of him you could get. A small pretty boy instead of a big tough guy. Lundgren or even the Rock would have been pretty good. Heck, even Hugh Jackman would have fit the part when he's all jacked up.

I remember Alpha Flight following him around and trying to abduct him from Prof X, there was back story to it where they show how AF found him wandering around naked or something and turned him into Weapon X. If i'm not mistaken, the AWESOME Japanese story from the 80's was written by Frank Miller. Edit, I'll go on record saying that Wolverine Origin movie sucked so bad I turned it off.

I loved his cameo in Xmen First Class.

That was the best part of the whole movie!

I think that the Wolverine series set in Japan was written by Chris Claremont and Frank Miller, with art by Frank Miller. One of my favorite covers is of Wolverine, smirking with a cigar, beckoning the bad guys to try their best.

The Weapon X storyline was early 90s and was on the flip side of Marvel Comics Presents, which was almost all Wolverine background. It was mostly written by Scott Lobdell. After the mini series by Claremont and Miller, the main series was written by Claremont with John Buscema doing pencils. I stopped buying in the late 90s and only occasionally look at the new stuff. It seems to almost all be a rehash of old stuff though. During the 80s and 90s I picked up almost anything with Wolverine in it and have a bunch of AF (new and old) and its not too bad. I tried to watch the movies with a forgetful mind so I didnt get too disgusted with it. I did think Jackman did alright even if he was too tall but they filmed it well enough that you dont really notice. I liked the storyline where it turns out he was married a bunch of times to different female villains. I think the main aspect of him I like (besides being Canadian ;-) is that noone really knows how old he is or his true history. In part of the Japan storyline, there is a couple of hints that he may have fought in WW2 (part of the secret agent story as well) and some of the Weapon X line talks about his life in the Canadian wilderness with the natives sometime at the turn of the century. Even more is the fact that when Bishop comes back in the 90s, he talks about someone who resembles Wolverine in his time (80 years in the future). The Age of Apocolypse line really puts a lot of info out for him as well.
