I don't have a cell phone. Today, coming from my parents home back to mine I was approxamatly 2 miles off of the entrance ramp of the interstate. Pulled over on the safety lane, a woman was beating a girl who may have been between age 10 and 15. This was beating like I have never seen. I pulled off on the next exit to call the Highway Patrol to report it and the gas station I pulled in to acted like "so what". I guarantee I will have a cell phone from here on out and have no clue what the fate is of this child, hopefully other drivers on the road reported it. I am assuming it was her child because the girl never had a chance to defend herself. :( I believe it's *HP for help is it not?

Darlin', I knew exactly what you meant - of course I'm an Honorary Southerner, so that helps! ;)

IMHO, you did exactly the right thing. Stopping to intervene physically might have resulted in the woman turning her anger on you.

I always intervene when I see an adult physically man/woman-handling a child to a degree that exceeds what's known as a 'little slap on the butt'. And when they tell me that it's none of my business I just reply that I am _making_ it my business. End of discussion. (Of course it helps that I'm 6-foot-four, 250 pounds, and a mean S.O.B. when necessary.) :D

Well ma'am she must have whipped that child but good,It musta been terrble.

I don't know that posting pictures here would really help much, but giving pictures to the police could help a lot.
 
Morbid curiosity aside.....

With or without camera, Cindy, you ought to have a cell phone. Hate to imagine you in a situation yourself and not being able to call for help.... :( You have a knack for doing the right thing and we kinda like havin' you around here. Be safe and get a cell, please.
 
Cindy, good on you for doing the right thing. The average person can tell the difference between a spanking and a beating, and kids over 10 shouldn't get a spanking in public, especially a beating.


Get a cellphone plan for you and Geno, Cavelady. I'm switching my 30 bucks a month plan that I use 30 minutes on (200 min max) to one with my family where I only pay 10 bucks a month for as much time as I want.
 
Cindy, I can't help you with a monthly contract, but if you need a pay-as-you-go cellphone I'll have a NIB unit off to you by courier as soon as I can get to a Target store! An early X-mas gift to you and the wild man from me! :)
 
A girl without a cell hone???? :confused: Cin, a cellphone is a VERY important part of your gear. Communication and calling for backup is primordial in a survival situation. Even the fact that you are talking to the cops on your CP can make a difference.

If you can buy or ask ;) one of the new ones with a built in camera. One blurry shot of the numberplate could make a big difference in identifying someone.

So get of your butt ,and get yourself a cell phone! All cell phones are able to call 911 even when they have no more money on the SIM-card.

I can't think of what would justify such a ferocious beating. If it was done to the adult woman, whatever the cause, I'm sure she would be running and crying to the police and lawyers......but the girl has no such recourse.

Since you already carry a gun and blade, how come no cell phone? One tip from an ex-LEO.....when you need LEO service, sometimes exaggerate a bit....if you make it sound like a domestic, no LEO is going to speed there. Say you think some kid is being killed by being beaten to death, ask who you are talking to....ask whether there will be a response, ask who the responding officers will be....give the LEO operator a contact to call you back again, to tell you what action was taken....be a demanding customer of the police services where you are.

As an ex-LEO, I am probably the worse, and most demanding customer of police services any LEO has come across.

Hope you are keeping well over there. Here it has been rather quite recently. No americans with overbite have come over in the last month or so.

Head, upper torso. The woman was facing on coming traffic and when I looked at her victim I saw it was a young girl...this was rage. She was shaking her and punching her. Thankyou for the advice Gentlemen, Syk that is excellent advise and Holger, I do believe I'll have one before this week is out but I thank you just the same. :)
 
We are all assuming that what Cindy saw was a young girl being beaten when for all we know it could have been a vicious midget who was being fought off for trying to carjack the poor woman.

Joking aside. You should have confronted the woman from the confines of your car and tell her that you are calling the police and giving them her plate numbers for further investigation. Then drive off quickly.

And Cindy, i really agree with everyone else for you getting a cellphone. Take the cockroaches offer and demand for a brand spanking new phone with 2mp camera. No point getting old technology right.
 
Point44, I was in the middle lane, no autos beside me to the right and I had not started to accelerate to a higher speed so I was just running 60mph. Slow enough to visibly see the situation.
 
The woman was probably a smoker and the girl must have told her she shouldn't be smoking. :p :D


Ok, sorry for the jab at smokers. In all seriousness, you did the right thing. I would have called the police too.

Perhaps you meant to type "request" and accidentally hit an incorrect key or two?

My offer to my _FRIEND_ Cindy was to go out and purchase for her whatever current, _NEW_, PAYG cellphone is offered by Target. I'm assuming their technology is fairly "current"? Knowing Cindy as I do, I don't think she would ever _demand_ anything!

I think I'm insulted. :)
