woman survives 50 ft fall, eats bugs and berries until rescued

Wow amazing, good to hear she's alive and well.

Your title is a bit misleading though, I thought you meant she survived a 50ft fall because she landed on bugs. I was thinking, "Damn that must be a lot of bugs!".

That is a very cool story. Sounds like she wandered for a while looking for a better camping spot if it took rescuers 3 days to find her. My "looking for a better camping spot" is usually a 200 yard search...

P.S. if you think Bladeforums is bad sometimes, take a gander at the responses to this story. It's pretty ridiculous.

Some of the most ignorant statements come from posts on the end of news stories. Why news agencies clutter their bandwidth with nonsensical retorts from their readers is beyond me.

Great story. Another example of how mindset is the most important thing in survival.

G'day SB

When I consider this: "She had no camping equipment or survival gear with her when she got lost, deputies told CNN affilate KOIN-TV in Portland".....

..... and I realise the emphasis on a number of internet forums, for many years, on the absolute need for a number of acronyms like PSK & BOB etc... how was her survival possible?

I guess she was lucky and didn't need to survive a "zombie invasion" :D:D:D

Confused
Mick

What is the point of your post again?

Her survival gear was apparently her panties... and whatever else she was wearing.

She did good .

She fell off a cliff ,broke her leg in a couple places , managed to do some improvised first aid , and used what she had around her to keep warm and eat .

A PSK woulda give her maybe a whistle to alert her mate with , some pain killers that woulda not really been adequate , maybe a emergency blanket , and something to start a fire with where she had just hunkered under moss ...

I still say a PSK is dam handy . at times , a little preparedness turns a situation that can require helicopter rescue into a inconvenience and a story to tell when you get home / back from the ER .

I looked this story up , and it turns out that the girl fell off the cliff , broke 2 vertebrae and her leg in 2 places . Thats a truck load of pain and movement problem right there .

She was wearing a tank top and shorts only .. stopped some bleeding using a improvised bandage ( no one said how bad it was but the photos that turned up showed her in hospital looking kinda banged up ) , found herself food , kept herself warm , and was moving downstream hoping to find rescue

OK , the people looking for her apparently said they wished she had have stayed put , but that she had done the 2nd best thing heading down stream .

My opinion is that this girl has bigger balls than a lot of folk I know . Seriously .

I still haven't gotten further than the OP's Avatar, give me another few hours...

You have a two track mind.

I'd say she did a great job surviving that. The area she was in gets really cool and wet at night and would not be fun even without the broken bones.

She did good on surviving, but how far was she looking for that next campsite?

3 days actually seems like a long time considering her boyfriend was on location and knew right away that something wasn't right.

I'd like to hear her statement when she heals up and gets rested as to how/where she fell.
