If this subject has come up before, and recently, let me know, and disregard.
Also posted this in General Discussion, as many of you do not head over there, it seems.
WARNING, GROSS GENERALIZATION AHEAD: Most women don't like knives.
I think I know why, stay with me here. I think it's that most people have gotten at least one bad cut in their lives, and with women, it stays in their subconscious longer, and in a different way than men. I get cut, bad, 5 minutes later(if I can still walk) I'm back playing with a knife. Then, there is the obvious "penis" thing, which I do not need to elaborate on. You get it.

I mean there are champion female shooters, and some are not bad looking. There are magazines for women with guns(that own them, not those cheesy, but classic "Chicks with Automatic Weapons" videos).

But very, very few women in the business. Making, selling, buying, using. I mean personally, when I am at a knife show, unless the women are very knowledgeable, and they usually aren't, I'm not real interested in having them around.

I tried to cultivate an interest in every girlfriend that I have ever had, including my wife, and although she enjoys the occasional small, pearl handled folder, she has never shown any real interest in getting into it beyond the basic surface. I do personally know a disproportionally high number of "butch" lesbians that DO like knives, however.

I would be really interested in those of you who are over 18, have actually gotten laid at least once without paying for it, and have wives/girlfriends/ex-wives/ex-girlfriends to chime in on this most, for me, tantalizing subject.

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson

I can't say that she's that interested, but my wife certainly managed to pick out the gem in my collection without prompting. (A Jack Busfield folder).

But.... whenever she sees me over-working and getting stressed out, she says "why don't you go play with your knives a while"..... and honestly, she says it in the best possible way! Can't ask for more really.;)

Cheers
Rod

My wife certainly encourages my hobby, I just don't think she cares for it that much.

Okay I will admit that I obsess (sp?) about knives. That said my wife is always very willing to put up with me. She is also a great critic of my knives, she sees almost every knife that I make and has her comments on each one good or bad.

Took her to her first knife show in January - Vegas show and she is coming with me to Blade. As soon as she heard I had a table at Blade she was determined to go so she's coming.

She owns two of my knives and does seem interested in most of the knives I show her.

As for selling knives to women I think I've only ever sold two knives to women that were buying them for themsevlves. Both were very enthusiastic about the purchase and definitely used them.

I guess I'm lucky in this respect. My Girlfriend Totally Supports my knife Addiction,Uhm,Er,Duh, "Obsession",and actually owns her own Pearl Handled Damascus Dagger.I bought it for her,but She Loved it from the Git-Go.If my knife fund is short and I Really want a knife bad she shuffles the finances around so I can swing it.I wouldn't give her up even for Anything.Good Thread Steve

My wife of 37 years, has seen the importance I place on knives when we are at the hunting camp. Has watched me clean many a deer and heard the complaints about good, bad, and ugly knives. Has seen the bald spots mysterously appear on my legs and arms around the start of hunting season, but has stopped short of offering a place for a sharpness test.

We roamed into an Oshmans Sporting goods one day and naturally we tend to go our separate ways. In a few minutes here she comes with a hand full of knives like the ones I like best. And she had picked out the best looking wood. I have been buying some on ebay and she gets very into it. She kept one of the 5 that she picked out that day, and it lives in her back pack, along with her own hunting gear, next to her own fitted Mohwak 600. I know yall are into exotic, but she picked up 4 Buck 110's and insisted we buy all 4. Who was I to argue...

My wife:
I say up; she says down
I say left; she says right
I say north; she says south

But she lets me spend lots of dough on guns, knives, watches, cars etc..

As much as I love custom knives, I've cut way back on them.

you guys are on crack......

a woman grows up using knives much more then a man, from helping "mom" out in the kitchen at a tender age to growing up and becoming a wife, as sterotypical as it is women prepare most of the meals at home.

a woman views a knife with scorn, as a tool used and nothing more. we as men obsess about knives because we view them with lust.

because I generally collect "sexy" knives. :D

My wife mostly views my knives with a patient understanding, like I view her Bonsai. They are fine to have around, but we don't really play with each other's toys.

She does have some pearl handled folders that she uses, and some that she just likes to look at.

But, we don't do drugs in this section of the forums. We only talk about knives, and custom ones at that. Are you lost? Do you own any custom knives? Would you like to share your story?

I'll start for you.

My name is Steven Garsson, and I am working towards a specific collection of 2 knives from 50 knifemakers. I am about 80% there and would be finished faster if it was not for Kevin Cashen. When it is done, I plan on making a special display for it and traveling to different art galleries around the country, speaking about knives as an art form to (hopefully) the uninitiated.

And you?

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson

boy here you got us started ok First thing's First . The Crack Comment was not very Appropriate! by whoever that was saying it .Me i respect the fact you want to educate others about knives very much ! i hope you warn them about the addiction !
My story is simple i married a great woman who can tell if any knife isn't right within a couple of seconds .she help's me design some of them , Some Scream some dont ive loved Blades as long as i can remember. Making them just seemed like the right thing to do since im very picky about what i like and couldnt find it offered for sale anywhere . i enjoy this Obsession every day i think about what new design im going to make, i grew up a knife knut my wife grew up using knives daily so we are a perfect match she understands and supports my insanity .

My wife will not leave the house with out a Kershaw speed assist clipped in her right front pocket. She also carries a Case Bone Copperlock in her purse.
Uses the hell out of em two. I'm asked to touch them up every couple months and they need it.

She thinks I'm "whack" about knives. Doesn't bat an eye if I drop $60 on a production folder. Feels the need to know "why" if I'm fixn to spend $600 on a custom folder.

Actually, it was an ex-GF that got me into knives in a big way... She had her own business, license and letterhead - found out that qualified for a MOTENG catalog... she bought me I don't remember how many cool production knives! And then I found out about handmades... It's been downhill ever since! LOL!.. 'Course... we ended up going our seperate ways and I haven't found anyone intereseted in them since then... :(
