heaven help the man who messes with my woman ; i just gave her my trident folder ! any of you guys buy your women sogs?

I am giving my girlfriend a SEAL pup elite for her christmas. She doesn't like the handle on my SEAL 2000. Says it is too big and uncomfortable for her small hands. She really wants a good knife though (wonder if my constant talking is having an effect on her?), so it HAD to be a SOG. I figured the pup elite was a good choice due to better handle ergonomics and being a very pretty knife to look at.

Soon she may become as sick as me and want another SOG, and another, and another, and....................

loupe garous i gave mine to my girlfriend for Self Defense purposes. the trident folder is a sick knife

Sir Galant,

I wish I could do the same. Unfortunately I live in Scotland and our knife laws are going through a bit of a review at the moment. In Glasgow, where I originally hail from there is a very definite "knife culture". Carrying a blade is seen as a "cool" thing to do, and they are used all too often in gang fights, territory wars, and sheer drunken stupidity. Unfortunately those in power see the solution to this problem as being tighter controls, more powers of stop and search by the police, and stiffer penalties for the carrying of a knife without good cause, (ie, job requirements etc).

What this means for us normal law abiding citizens is that it becomes harder and harder to possess what is commonly referred to on these forums as an EDC. Simply being in possession of a knife here is tantamount to breaking the law, (or at least, that's how it feels) :(

Therefore I got my girlfriend the pup elite which will be used when we go camping etc. This knife is very practical for those activities, and it is MUCH simpler to prove a need to be carrying the knife when you have a 120 litre rucksack on your back, or a tent beside you!

I envy you the ability to give your other half such a fantastic EDC knife for self defence and sincerely wish I could do the same, but if the law goes the way it looks like going here I think that will become an increasingly unrealistic wish.

Just my tuppence worth! :)

dear loupe garou

here in Australia we have similar laws you can be charged for if found carrying a knife : carrying a concealed weapon , going armed in public , any number of things but my girlfriend and i merely flout such stupid laws ( i carry my flash 2 and my swiss champ s.a.k ) we simply have to be discreet . sorry to hear about your situation in scotland , we have bad gangs and drunken stupidity over here too thats why i carry my flash and my girl the trident folder . here switchbldes and butterfly knives arer illegal , and to the cops the flash 2 is a switchblade .

regards

Sir Galant,

Sounds like the rules are pretty similar for us then. I thought perhaps Australia had more enlightened laws, but it sounds like you are subject to the same short sighted laws as us.

Switchblades and butterfly knives/ballisongs have been illegal here for some time now. I did wonder how the SAT knife range from SOG would be viewed by law enforcement. From the descriptions and reviews they sound VERY similar to switchblades. Probably close enough to draw some unwanted attention from Mr Policeman!

I too carry a couple of knives with me. One is a tiny little victorinox jelly which is ideal for utility purposes with its small pair of scissors etc, the other is a Buck 110 folding lock knife for more practical purposes. I haven't gotten round to looking at the SOG folders yet, though it will come ;)

As you say, I guess discretion is the key with all of these things. If you don't go around flaunting your knife and trying to intimidate people you are more likely to be left to go about your business by Mr Policeman.
