Mail came Saturday while I was out splittin', haulin' and stackin' 2 cords of firewood for the fireplace at home so when I came home and the Mrs. handed me a Priority Mail box I knew the knife I'd won from TLARbb on the Traditional Forums here at BFC was here at last.

I've never had, held or owned a Sowbelly before and it was a pattern I'd never considered ownin', so when the opportunity to win one in a giveaway I threw my name in the hat.

The fact that it had Winterbottom bone scales, (my favorite type of scales) just cinched it.

I forgot all about till I saw the notification from Ed that I had won the giveaway so when it came on Saturday I was chompin' at the bit to check this baby out.

All I can say is WOW, what a beautiful knife, the scales are gorgeous, the F&F are superb, I own one other Case/Bose knife, (a Chestnut Bone Swayback Jack in CV) also won here @ BFC, I've come to the conclusion that if it has a TB prefix in the Case pattern # it's gonna be a great knife.

I don't know why but I thought this was gonna be a bigger knife, happily it's midsize and bein' a single blade it's slim profile rides very nicely in the watch pocket.

I love the attention to detail that some of the other companies don't address, like how the bolsters actually cover the end of the tang where the sharp corner's usually exposed. The slim profile and perfectly centered blade make this a perfect EDC user, scales match perfectly and the jigging is very deep offerin' great grip on a slim knife.

Outta da box sharpness, well like most production companies out there, fell a little short of a butter knife but all it was, a wire edge that had to be cleaned up, 2 minutes on the bench hone and it was good to go.

I've been lucky enough to win a few Giveaways here at BFC so with my 11,000 post commin' up I'll be hostin' another giveaway so watch for my post count it's gettin' close.

One last thing I wanna add, Ed, (TLARbb) from here at BFC packed this knife in such a secure way, I'm gonna ship all my smaller items this way. He made a sandwiched cardboard template to put the knife box in so there was absolutely no movement at all.

Thanks again Ed this will ride in my pocket for a long time to come, without further pause here are a few quick pics I took this mornin'.

ETA I changed hosting sites and as I find the broken links I fix 'em. Consider this one fixed. :) (~);-}

Excellent! Congrats on the win and thanks to Ed for the awesome give away!

It's cold enough here that the puddles in my driveway are freezin' over night, 26 degrees last night.

With the creek in my back yard and bein' at the lowest point in the valley here, all the cold air settles in my yard at night makin' it 5-10 degrees colder than it is at street level.

Cool! Thanks for the explanation. I thought it was ice, then plastic, then ice, then was leaning toward plastic (the last picture looks more like plastic over some sort of [knife-stickable] material). I was close. Half the time.

Wow... a great looking knife! Congratz Ted! :)

Excuse me the silly question .... Do you mean 26° Fahrenheit or -26° Celsius (which would be heavy for November!)

However - a great win a I´m sure you´ll enjoy it :)

One of my favorite patterns. Ted, you are right when you say that anything with a TB in the model # is going to be a great knife.

26 degrees F ;)

Ok Ted, now I got it... -3.3° C that´s ok for November... your hands will get warmer with the new Sowbelly in the hand, for sure :)

Photos are great. I was happy that it turned out to be well assembled and finished by Case as I ordered it a couple days before the give away began and it didn't show up until Thursday of the next week, while the give away was running. I was very surprised that so many folks entered the give away before the knife arrived and the "rules" were published.

I think you will like it; I really like the one I have. I think your pictures turned out better than mine. I may pick up another single blade sowbelly for myself in a few days.

Congrats on a very fine looking knife! Thanks Ed for making this place a great place to be.

Nice win and a generous giveaway.

Ed certainly is superb when it comes to packing knives in an expert fashion, he should go into the Secret Services:D:D

Regards, W

Especially nice with the sunk joint, that knife harks back to when Case actually used red Winterbottom bone for a brief period, 80-100 years ago!
Ted, with your permission, I will clutter up your thread with your knife's Grandfather!:D

A bit beat up:

Congrats to you both!!

I'd never seen Winterbottom bone till I picked up an old Queen Serpentine Jack with the Delrin version of Winterbottom bone, from then on I was hooked, I was even lucky enough to pick up a carving set from Queen in real Winterbottom Bone from a yardsale for about $10...

That's a gorgeous Equal End Jack, it looks to be lovingly used and palm worn. ;)
