Can anyone tell who the artists name is? I know what it looks like, but is hard to tell. I got it for $18.50, so I thought it was a good deal.

The man who did most of Schrade's scrimshaw was Mr. Frank Giorgianni, (someone please correct me if I am wrong).

If you would like a piece of his original art work, you might want to order a forum knife. See the thread:

I have the forum knife and it is worth every penny. It is stunning! :D

Well I'm not sure whos it is, but I needed another scrimshaw piece to add, or another sytle knife with scrimshaw, so I got this one. This makes three, so I need one more in a fixed blade.

I am wrong. I blew up the photo and yep, sure seems to say F Giordianni. Looking at my references, I see that this is part of the 'Schrade Scrimshaw of the Great American Outdoors', the Badger, model 524, 'Tradesman'.

I'm going by the chart on page 166 of my Levine's 4th edition. Only goes up to 1996. Were there more of this series after that? Would be a good project to put together a complete list.

Nice knife.

I was gonna chime in about how when I was trading e-mails with Frank after I ordered my forum knife he told me he did the Schrade scrimshawing from 75-92 (and this knife's dated '87)... but I think it's already been well established that that is his John Henry. But I think Mtnwind got a helluva good deal. Since receiving my forum knife, I've been watching e-bay for some of the older Frank Gs, and they've been going in the 40s and up... If I'd've seen this one, you might have had to bid a bit higher to get it! Going by that chart in Levine's (thanx for mentioning it, Phil, I'd forgotten it was there!), you paid a couple bucks too much! Of course the 4th Edition is 9 years old.... I wonder if there's some simple general factor we could apply to Levine's prices to upgrade them to this millenium. Alas, I'm sure he would have done it by now, except for that little rift with the publisher... [It was folks in the general discussion forum here at Blade Forums that steered me right to get the 4th edition and nothing later, since Bernard lost the rights to his own guide and someone else is doing it now....]
Later,
Barry
